Evater Mockabee (Davenport) Muhammad passed away Monday, January 20, 2014 at St. Marys of Michigan Medical Center. Age 85 years. She was born November 11, 1928 in Paducah, Kentucky to Elzie and Sammie Mae Gentry Mockabee.
Evater was a fashion forward woman whose presence commanded attention. She loved cooking, decorating and entertaining family and friends. Evater enjoyed giving advice to everyone. Her presence will be truly missed by all who knew and loved her.
She leaves to cherish her memory her husband, Jacob Muhammad; four daughters, Debra El-Amin Sr., Angienell Davenport, Linda M. McCune and Rasheedah (Howard) Wazeerud-Din; four sons, Michael (Kathleen) Davenport, Walid Muhammad, Gene (Terri) Davenport Sr. and J.C. (Doris) Davenport Jr.; fifty-three grandchildren; eighty-four great-grandchildren; twenty-four great-great-grandchildren; many other relatives and friends including special friend, Dr. Waheed Akbar.
Evater was preceded in death by her parents, Elzie and Sammie Mae Mockabee, sisters, Earleen Mockabee, OllaMae Mockabee, Canary Eddison, Esther Sheard, Venoid Bracken, Breavious Mobley and B.Q. Mockabee, brothers, Elgie, Percy, Hayvern, Sam and Buster Mockabee, two grandsons, Anthony Davenport and Quentin Richardson, two great-grandsons, Deshawn Amos, Hasan Jackson, two great-grand-daughters, Kintasia Pollard and Sasha Matthews, one special niece, Angenell Dugan.
The family wishes to express special thanks to the staff of St. Mary's of Michigan Medical Center SICU unit, Nurse Amanda, the Islamic Center of Saginaw, Pastor Marvin T. Smith and Mt. Olive Institutional Missionary Baptist Church, sisters, Ethel Nadiyah Shaheed, Nargis Islam, Muni Akbar and Aminah Ali.
