Flora Lee Winters

July 29, 1927 — May 27, 2018

Our beloved Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, Sister, Aunt and Friend, Mother Flora Winters, made her transition from earth to glory to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 27, 2018 at 11:18PM surrounded by her loving family.

Mother Winters was born July 29, 1927 in Yazoo City, Mississippi, the second of two children, raised by her parents Sam and Elnora Perkins. After she met and married on August 9, 1947 the love of her life, Mr. Grant Winters, Sr., they moved to Saginaw, Michigan in 1955. To that union they were blessed with four boys and two girls. Their marriage spanned almost 55 years until his passing on June 16, 2002.

A quiet spoken woman filled with love and warmth, Mother Winters was always helping others. She was a wonderful homemaker known for keeping a clean, neat home and for her good cooking. She was dedicated to her husband and family who affectionately called her “Ma”. She always enjoyed traveling with her daughter Shirley across the country to visit family and friends and attend church functions.

Upon giving her life to Christ, Mother Winters served as a longtime, faithful member of The Whole Truth/Lewis Temple Church of God in Christ located in Saginaw, Michigan for 47 years before moving to Ohio in 2004. Upon relocating to Columbus to be with her daughter and son, Mother Winters briefly attended Praise Temple Church of God in Christ until her health declined.

Mother Winters was preceded in death by her husband, Grant Winters, Sr.; daughter, Nora Mae Winters; parents, Sam and Elnora Perkins; son-in-law, Earl Hopkins; sister-in-law, Ruby Dale Miles; great-grandson, Gregory Davis, Jr.

Mother Winters leaves to cherish her precious memories her daughter/caregiver Shirley Hopkins, Columbus, Ohio; four sons, Sam (Joyce) Winters, Curtis (Cheryl) Winters, Saginaw, Michigan, Grant Jr. (Laurie) Winters, Joplin Missouri, Daren Winters (Paula Harman), Columbus, Ohio; brother Robert Miles, Jr., Yazoo City, Mississippi; adopted daughter, Lanita C. Bonner, Columbus, Ohio; nine grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

A special tribute and recognition to Mother Shelby, Mother Cooper and Mother Nix for the dedicated loving friendship they have shown her throughout the years. Even though they were miles apart, they were still close. To the late Bishop Lewis and Mother Statha Lewis, thank you for all you’ve done and the special love that she had for you as her Pastor and First Lady. Even when she left Michigan she still held you in her heart as her Pastor and First Lady.

Special thanks to Vera and Shirley Sealy and Karen Moore for their kindness and generosity towards Mother Winters. Also, Mr. James (Jimmie) Leslie who was a very good neighbor and friend to Mother Winters in Columbus.

To her many hospice caregivers, especially Jeannie Buskrk (Case Manager), and Nurse Anita Moore, along with a very special thanks to Clara Spanks, who was there faithfully until the end. Words cannot express the family’s gratitude and appreciation for the medical care and attention given to Mother Winters. Thank you very much.
