Flora J. Quinn (Country Club Hills, IL-Lansing)

Flora Jean Kaufman Quinn “Flo” passed away Thursday, November 7, 2024, in Glenwood, Illinois. Age 89 years. She was born Monday, November 19, 1934, in Curtis, Arkansas. The daughter of Burdette Kaufman and Florine (Mitchell) Kaufman. She was the first of five siblings. 

Flora graduated from Arkadelphia High School and married Charles Gill; they had one daughter. In 1963, she married Thomas Quinn, they had three children. She was blessed with a bonus son. 

Flora accepted Christ early and used her gift to pursue her passions. Her first passion was music. In her early years, she played the piano in church and faithfully served as a choir member. She said her dad told her he was “proud of her.” She yearned to play the guitar and enjoyed different genres of music, such as blues, R&B, and gospel. 

In 1967, Thomas and Flora moved to Lansing, Michigan, where she pursued her second passion, sewing. In 1980, she worked at Holden Reid Clothing Store as a seamstress. She used her talent to make clothes for her children and was very good at crocheting. 

In 1988, she moved to Milwaukee, Wisconsin, until 2023, when she moved to Country Club Hills, Illinois, to be with her daughter and family.

She leaves to cherish her memory daughter, Lisa Anne (Darryl Grant) Quinn-Grant of Country Club Hills, Illinois; sons, Thomas Lavon Quinn and Carl Anthony (Deborah) Quinn of Lansing, Michigan; grandchildren, Lakeisha Tamika Renee Jones of Lansing, Michigan, Jessica Nicole Griffin of Toledo, Ohio, Justin D. Stewart and Jalicia D. Stewart of Homewood, Illinois, Camia Jones-Quinn of Lansing, Michigan, Layonna Quinn of Grand Rapids, Michigan, Terrell Quinn, Takeisha Shant'e Quinn and Takeyla Shavon Quinn of East St. Louis, Illinois, and Duffy Grant of Country Club Hills, Illinois; sister-in-law, Levora Kaufman of St. Louis, Missouri; many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Rosalind Renee Griffin; son, Bizer Quinn; granddaughter, Carla Denise Jeanette Jones-Quinn; parents, Burdette and Florine Kaufman; sisters, Helen Joyce Humphrey and Anne Stern; brothers, Billy James Kaufman and Hank Leon Kaufman.
