Florence Nicholson (Lansing)

Mrs. Florence Nicholson passed away Saturday, November 23, 2019 at her residence in Lansing, Michigan. Age 84 years. She was born in Columbia, Tennessee the daughter of Frank and Mae Bell (Gordon) Renfro on July 3, 1935.

Florence graduated from Carver Smith High School in Columbia, Tennessee in 1953. She accepted Christ at an early age and ensured that if her children knew one thing, it was that Christ was Lord and the Church was important. Florence held several positions when she moved to Michigan with her husband, Earl Nicholson. She worked for George Worthington Company in the warehouse. Her last position was with the State of Michigan, Department of Treasury, where she worked until 1974 to pursue other interests. Florence also sold Decorama and Jafra Products; she really enjoyed the face to face interactions with people through in-home sales. She enjoyed travel, reading, her bowling league, walking, exercised faithfully throughout her life, as well as joining the YMCA with Earl so they could exercise together, always enjoyed her morning cup of coffee and especially her love of the Church. She had a deep love for her family. Additionally, Florence was a wonderful cook and her homemade rolls and peach pie were legendary. She did this until her health did not allow her to participate in these activities any longer.

She leaves to cherish her loving memory husband, Earl T. Nicholson; daughters, Cheryl Nicholson and Kimberly Nicholson; sons, Earl Nicholson II, Nelson & Niconna (Thompson) Nicholson; grandchildren, Nicholas and Meneka (Johnson) Nicholson, Casey Nicholson, Marquis Thompson, Marshon Thompson, Nelson Nicholson Jr. and Nabria Nicholson; sisters, Carolyn (Renfro) Buford & husband, Earnest Buford, Linda (Renfro) Hancock & husband, James Hancock; brothers- and sisters-in-law, Lossie Burkeen and Sonny Dunn, Claude Browne, Thessley and wife, Yvonne (Pincham) Nicholson, Geneva Renfro, Sarah (Taylor) Nicholson and beloved play son, Travis James and a host of beloved nieces, nephews, cousins other relatives and friends including special friend, Bobby Bostic.

She was preceded in death by parents, Frank and Mae Bell (Gordon) Renfro; mother- and father-in-law, Grandville and Ardena (Lockridge) Nicholson; sisters, Mary Ruth (Renfro) Fry, Mamie (Renfro) Burkeen, Barbara (Renfro) Browne; brothers: Frank Renfro Jr., Willie Renfro, Johnnie Renfro, and Earnest Renfro; sisters-in-law, Woodie (Nicholson) Brown, Marie (Reedy) Nicholson, Rosa Lee (Nicholson) Todd, Mary (Nicholson) Turntine, Lora (Nicholson) Dunn, Beatrice (Prowll) Nicholson; brothers-in-law, Thomas Turntine, Grandville Nicholson, William Nicholson, Thomas Nicholson, Frank Fry; and special friends, Ruth Price and Uranie James.
