Fran Curry passed away Wednesday May 8th, 2019 at Sparrow Hospital in Lansing, Michigan. Fran was born in Greenville South Carolina on October 8th, 1959 to Sarah Lee Bland. Fran graduated from Winthrop University with a Bachelor’s in Business Administration and later went on to earn a Master of Education in Childhood Development from Western Governors University, an Education Specialist Degree from Capella University, and was working on her PhD in Counselor Education and Supervision at Grand Canyon University.
She joined the Army in October 1982, and quickly became a Lieutenant. While serving in Germany she met her husband James G. Curry, and were later married in 1992. Her life was soon filled with the love of 8 children, to which she was the best mother. When asked what her greatest accomplishment in life was, Fran would always say that she was blessed to be a mother and blessed to raise the caliber of children that she did.
She retired from the Army in 1992 at the rank of Lieutenant. As an ordained Evangelist Fran was affiliated with Riverview Church, Trinity Church, City Life Church, and was a volunteer minister in Forgotten Man Ministries.
Fran loved helping out her community by working with the Boys and Girls Club, Big Brothers Big Sisters MCR, Capital Area Mentoring Partnership, The Letter Carriers' “Stamp Out Hunger” Food Drive, The Greater Lansing area Pregnancy Services and gave 2 years to Americorps. She was also heavily involved in churches around the community helping out with events like Love the City Week and as a volunteer minister in Forgotten Man Ministries.
Fran has left her mark in the city by loving others, and the love she has given has helped the community and the city of Lansing grow. And all her love and hard work will be continued by her kids.
She leaves to cherish her memory eight children, Kesandra D. (Anthony) Brunson, Deniece A. Curry, David E. (Sholana) Curry, Elizabeth V. S. Curry, James G. Curry II, Elayne A.S. Curry, Matthew B. Curry, Isaac J. Curry; her Goddaughter, Rosemary Ford; three grandchildren, Zimoriah K. A. Brunson, Aveon Curry, Ayiana Curry; great-granddaughter, Aylauni E. D. Worthy; niece, Chantelle Smith; sister, Eleanor Thums; and her spiritual mother, Victoria Logan.
Fran was preceded in death by her husband James G. Curry I; her mother, Sarah Lee Bland; her sister Beth Smith; and her brother William Bradford Smith II.
