Freddie Lee Perkins (Lansing)

October 24, 1941 — August 30, 2020

Freddie Lee Perkins went to be with the Lord on August 30, 2020 following a short illness at Sparrow Hospital. He was born in Aberdeen, Mississippi on October 24, 1941, the son of Wille Perkins and Katherine Moton.

The family is grateful to have been able to celebrate his life and many love-filled memories to cherish. He married the late Jodi L. Barnes and from this union are four children – Freddie, Debra, Cynthia and Janice. Freddie then married his second wife, Bobbie and enjoyed 46 years of marriage. Freddie was a Deacon at New Hope Church of God and Christ under the leadership of Superintendent Willie Wade where he remained as a faithful member until his homegoing. He served as Sunday School Teacher, member of the Male Choir, bus driver in the transportation ministry, and lead Usher. Freddie worked for General Motors – Fisher Body where he retired after 35 years of service. Freddie enjoyed travelling, enjoyed fishing with his life-long friends and was great at growing the best vegetables in his city garden. He adored his family and they loved him in return.

Big Dad, as he is affectionately called, was loved by many and will be greatly missed. He was preceded in death by his loving mother, Katherine Moton and father Willie Perkins; his devoted wife, Bobbie Jean Perkins; his daughter, Debra Elaine Perkins-McCully; sister, Willie Mae Danner; sister-in-law, Ruby Talley; and special friends Leon Deshazer and Elder R.W. King.

Freddie leaves to cherish his memory daughters Cynthia (Bobby) Springer of Grand Rapids, MI, Janice (Julian) Mais of Kingston, Jamaica, Patricia Hudgins, and Darlene (Curtis) Minor of Lansing, MI, Vanessa Jones of Memphis, TN; sons Freddie Davis (Shonda) Perkins, Jr. of Charlotte, NC, Russel Jones, Glen Jones, Rodney Jones of Lansing Michigan, Bryant (Monika) Jones of Lucedale, MS. Two brothers Joe (Ruby) Talley of Alexandria, VA, and George Moton of Lansing, MI. five sisters, Aldonia (Jessie) Robertson, Kate (Elzie) Anderson, Deola (Dennis) Lindsey, Jr., all of Hamilton, MS., Lena Moton-Thomas and Katherine Moton of Lansing, Michigan; Grandsons, Andrew Morgan, Julius Smith, Dominique Taylor, Freddie Perkins III, Joseph Perkins, Percell Singleton, Bobby Jawanza Springer, Teeven Jones, Rodney Jones, Jr., Nicholas Lane, Andrew Moore, and Dominique Cole. granddaughters, Morgan Rogers, Kyrsten Raigh Brown, Raven Perkins, Christian A’Jah Dorma, Leah Singleton, Bianca Springer, Ashley James, Rekeesha Jones, Precious Jones, Alaya Jones, Timeri Jones, Brittney Jones, Tiffany Singleton, and LaTora Sanders; and a host of other extended family, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
