Freddy James Petway, Sr. (Lansing)

Freddy James Petway, Sr. passed away Friday, September 10, 2021, at his residence in Lansing, Michigan at the age of 46 years old. He was born April 10, 1975, the son of Freddie and Henrietta Wiggins in Lansing, Michigan.

Freddy, known by his family as “Joe Joe” graduated from J. W. Sexton High School in Lansing as a member of the Class of 1994. He was a great athlete who played football and basketball for the Big Reds, he also loved playing with his friends throughout AAU, and intramural leagues. Working on cars with his dad sparked Fred’s passion for vehicles, he loved everything about cars. Freddy surrounded himself with them but most importantly, he made sure they were showroom ready. He serviced all of the Lansing Area; Freddy was the man to keep your vehicle in tiptop shape. He was a longtime employee of Big Ray’s Express Lube, where he was able to gain additional experience and techniques to add to his vast knowledge of mechanical skills. Fred was many things to many people: son, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin and friend. He enjoyed spending time with his family and had a great social presence. Whether it was a BBQ, football game, party, or just hanging out, he loved life and had a smile that would light up any room he entered.

Freddy leaves to cherish his loving memories four children, DeAndre Petway, LaJamia (De’Oindre) Lane, Ashley Petway, and Freddy Petway, Jr.; nine grandchildren, Marcello Petway, Adrianna Gottchalk, Noana Petway, Jaiyden Petway, Ayva Cantu, Emree Cantu, Salome’ Petway, Zanobia Petway and Freddy Petway III; father, Freddie Wiggins; two sisters, Rosemary Petway and Audrey Petway; three nieces who he shared a special bond with Krystalynn Petway, Brianna Petway, and Jada Petway; nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his beloved mother, who he cherished dearly, Mrs. Henrietta Wiggins.
