Frederick W. Ramsey (Lansing)

Mr. Frederick Walter Ramsey, Sr., after a lengthy illness, departed death to life on Saturday, May 25, 2024, at Mother Teresa House in Lansing. He was born on Sunday, February 14, 1943, in Lansing, Michigan. He was the son of Thomas James Ramsey and Florence “Flossy” Dungey and his Godmother, Violet Barry of Jackson, Michigan.

Fred resided in Lansing, Michigan for the last 43 years. He accepted Christ in his early years and later became a member of Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church. Fred served in several ministries at Pilgrim Rest Church: the Gospel Choir, Male Chorus, GO YE Outreach Ministry, Transportation Ministry and assisted his wife in the Deacon Ministry.

He graduated from Holt High School in Holt, Michigan in 1962. Fred was an advid runner during his young years and was a top track star at his high school. After serving in the United States Navy, he graduated San Diego State University with a BA in Marketing. He was employed in sales and marketing in various retail organizations until retiring in 2004.

Fred was known by his family and friends as a fun-loving person. People loved being in his presence and he loved talking to people and making friends.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 41 years, Maggie Blair-Ramsey of Lansing, Michigan; three children, Leslie Marie Lewis-Ramsey of Louisville, Kentucky, Frederick (Perla) Ramsey Jr. of San Diego, California and Eva Lori (Anthony Jr) Henry of Washington, D. C; stepchildren, Marlon (Latoreya) Beard of Lansing, Michigan and Crystal Blair of Memphis, Tennessee. In addition, Fred and Maggie shared sixteen grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; seven brothers-in-law and eight sisters-in-law: Emma (LC) Clark of Cleveland, Ohio, Willie (Ozel) Delk of Brownsville, Tennessee, William (Betty) Blair of Lansing, Michigan, Millie (Theodore) Clark of Matthews, North Carolina, Robert (Ruth) Blair of Lansing, Michigan, Anne (Curt) Eure of Lansing, Michigan, Ernie (Jeanette) Blair Bond of Lansing, Michigan and Nancy Bond of Conyers, Georgia, along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Thomas James Ramsey; mother, Florence “Flossy” Dungey; two brothers, Thomas “Tommy” Ramsey, Jr. and Emilio Antonio Ramsey; two sisters, Gloria Carter-Ramsey and Eugenia “Jeannie” Ramsey and one stepsister, Anita Morgan.
