George Baber

July 30, 1938 — March 19, 2014

Mr. George Baber began his journey in life on July 30, 1938. He was born in Union Springs, Alabama the son of Charlie and Willie Mae Baber. George gained his Heavenly wings and flew into the arms of our Lord and Savior on Wednesday, March 19, 2014.
George was a 1957 graduate of Saginaw High School where he was an All-Star basketball player. On February 5, 1960 he was united in holy matrimony with Mary Burton. She survives him. He was a faithful employee of General Motors Malleable Iron Foundry and a UAW Local 455 member. He retired after several years of service. George loved the Lord; he attended First Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor R.B. Ouellette where he served on the usher board. He was a fisherman and a hunter for wild game. George loved to garden, growing the most beautiful flowers and a large variety of plants and vegetables. He was a master carpenter having constructed two beautiful decks on his home and a fish pond in his backyard. George was well known for his Christmas decorations. He also enjoyed cooking and reading. His wonderful presence will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of 54 years, Mary Baber; two daughters, Rosemary (Johnny) Moore of Lansing, Michigan and Mary Ann Essex (Rodger Essex) of Saginaw, Michigan; two sons, George (Angela) Baber of Lansing, Michigan and Robert Baber of Grand Rapids, Michigan; twenty-one grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; four sisters, Bennie Mae Murray, Catherine (Daniel) Voltz, Lois (Eddie) Sims, all of Saginaw, Michigan and Joyce Parham of Grand Rapids, Michigan; one brother, Louis Baber of Saginaw, Michigan; many other relatives and friends including special friends, Robert and Mary McCray, Floyd Broadnax.
George was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Willie Mae Baber, grandparents, Wallace and Jessie Bell Coward, Jeff and Mittie Baber, two brothers, Charlie Green and Lawrence Baber Dobie, one sister, Annie Pearl Sangster.
The family wishes to express special thanks to the staff of Covenant Healthcare and the staff of Springwell Hospice.
