Georgia Bender

February 26, 1937 — March 27, 2015

Our beloved mother, grandmother, sister and aunt, Georgia W. Bender peacefully made her transition to heavenly glory on Friday, March 27, 2015. Age 78 years. She was born February 26, 1937 in Wilcox County, Alabama to Minnie Jones and Allen Crumpton.
Georgia was a graduate of the historical Snow Hill Institute in Snow Hill, Alabama before relocating to Saginaw, Michigan in 1955. She married Mr. George Bender Sr. and from this union four sons and one daughter was born. Georgia received an associate degree from Delta College and a bachelor degree from Saginaw Valley State University. She also received a certificate from the Adult Literacy Program for helping individuals obtain their GED. Many people credited her for going the extra mile to help them learn. Georgia was employed as a teacher for the Saginaw Board of Education before retiring after 25 years of service. During this time she worked at Houghton Elementary School, Nelle Haley Elementary School, Tri-City SER and Ruben Daniels Lifelong Learning Center. She was a den mother for the Boy Scouts and also helped out with the Girl Scouts.
Georgia enjoyed talking to loved ones on the phone, shopping and traveling. She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. Georgia was a wonderful woman with a big heart, beautiful smile and a loving personality. She was always able and willing to help anyone in need. Everyone always came to her for advice, suggestions or just to talk. Her presence will be truly missed by all who knew and loved her.
She leaves to cherish her memory one daughter, Giselle Bender (Demetrius Nash) of Saginaw, Michigan; three sons, George Bender of Saginaw, Michigan, Gary Bender of Houston, Texas and Greg Bender of Las Vegas, Nevada; grandchildren, Preston and Tamisha Lindsay, George Bender III, Dwight II and Ginga Kimbro, Victoria Klains, Daniel, Seth and Christine Bender; stepmother, Mary Crumpton; one sister, Pat (Tyrone) Ruffin; four brothers, Marshall (Terlisa) Crumpton and Henry (Gwen) Crumpton both of Montgomery, Alabama, McKinsley Crumpton of Grand Blanc, Michigan and Johnny Crumpton of Westland, Michigan; eleven nieces, Renee, Jerri, Donna, Candace, Angela, Shana, Shante, Sherrell, Gloria, Melinda and Ebony; six nephews, Allen, Montell, Darryl, McKensley, Tyrone and a special nephew, Donald who spent every summer with her; two aunts, Mattie Morgan of Detroit, Michigan and Nellie Dinkins of Akron, Ohio; one brother-in-law, Jim (Beatrice) Bender; one sister-in-law, Rosiebelle Stallworth; one godson, John (Val) Williams; many other relatives and friends including her close friends, Mary Drake and Margaret Brown.
Georgia was preceded in death by her husband, George Bender Sr., parents, Allen and Minnie Crumpton, one son, Glenn Bender, three brothers, MacArthur, Nathaniel and Charlie, one sister, Maesalena and one nephew, Nathaniel.
The family wishes to express special thanks to her grand-daughter, Ginga, who held a special bond with her grandmother, for the loving and compassionate care that she extended to her. A very special thank you to her daughter, Giselle, for extending herself to her mother wholeheartedly, and all our friends and family for your heartfelt condolences and prayers.
