Georgia Mae Turner

Our beloved matriarch, Georgia Mae Turner, born June 18, 1943, heard her name called and transitioned from this life to eternal life on January 15, 2024, at 80 years old.

Mother Turner was born in Yazoo, Mississippi to the late Georgia and Joe Snead. She was the eighth child of eleven children. Blessed with a mother’s heart and faith with steadfast love, this mother, sister, missionary, and evangelist eventually moved to Saginaw, MI in the 1960s and married Deacon Charlie Turner on April 28, 1973. They spent fifty years on an inseparable journey of matrimony with all of life’s ups and downs, proving to be an example that God handcrafts true love.

Mother Turner’s livelihood included positions with the Saginaw Public School District in roles within the cafeteria as a cook/lunch aide, she was also a housekeeper at various places. Her greatest reward was being able to stay home as she dedicated her time to managing her home, nurturing her children, and instilling the Word of God into her family while balancing life’s responsibilities. She also opened her home to family members who needed assistance with care for many years.

Mother Turner’s pastimes included cooking, sewing, and singing. She was a talented cook; many people adored and preferred her food. She loved fashion and was a meticulous dresser. She created a warm, inviting home as she loved to show hospitality.

Mother Turner loved God and loved the church. She was a longtime All Nations Prayer Tower COGIC member under the leadership of the late Pastor Lewis Bishop. She served as an usher under the leadership of Deacon Charlie Turner, sang in the adult choir, and worked in the children’s ministry. In time, she heard the voice of God calling her to evangelize. She spoke at various church programs, and years later, she became a licensed missionary. She became a church headliner known for her Friday Night Shut-In services for many years, teaching, laboring in God’s word, praying with those who wanted to know God better, and helping them overcome life challenges.

Mother Turner eventually assisted her brother, Pastor James, and First Lady Charlene Snead with building a ministry. She became a member of Greater Love Ministries COGIC. GLM named the church’s fellowship hall the Mr. and Mrs. Charlie and Georgia’s Fellowship for her dedicated, unwavering, and faithful service. She prepared and sold food for many years to strengthen the building fund. She also organized the annual church picnic.

She leaves to cherish her memory a loving husband of fifty years, Deacon Charlie Turner. Her children, Mentha Hall, Narvel (Felicia) Badger, Angela Snead, Mario (Ebony) Turner, and Georgette (Twannie) Gray, Charles (Gracie) Turner, Larry Turner, and Inez (Raymond) Tyson; two brothers, David Snead and James (Charlene) Snead; two sisters Mattie Henely, and Naomi (Thomas) McCloud; her grandchildren, Timothy II, Isaiah (Dorothy), Nehemiah, Michael (Ashley), Noah, Monsherri, and Nana Hall, Qwenton (Felicia), Breanne Badger and Zachary Badger-House, Avaris, Terrance (Audrey) and DaMario Snead, Lauren Wilson, Julian Scott-Turner, Derrick Jr., and Kyla Mushatt, Jacob, Jackson, and Gia Gray, Raymond (Denise) and Shanelle Tyson.

Mother Turner leaves behind 36 grandchildren, 76 great-grandchildren, 13 great-great-grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, and church family.

Mother Turner held some special people dear to her heart, including her godson, Jimmie Hall Jr., friends Daisy Furlow, Lafayette Hayes, Rosemary Myles, Betty Mathis, Betty Haynes, Abby Thomas, Mother Shipman, Mother Bishop, Mother Goldie Harris, and Mother Gilmore.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Georgia Snead, brothers Joe Jr. and Frank Snead, sisters Bonnie Brown, Ora Lee Price, Mildred Stevenson, Annie Pearl Blackman, her son Otis Turner, and a great-granddaughter, Amari Tyson.

Mother Turner always said she was living to live again. What an imprint Mother Turner left on our hearts. And in our hearts, you will forever remain knowing our God embraced you with the words, “Job well done, my good and faithful servant!”
