Gerard "Sue" Lipsey

April 21, 1949 — May 30, 2021

Mrs. Gerard “Sue” Elie Lipsey was born April 21, 1949, in Greenville, Mississippi. Sue was the second of ten children born to Frank and Rosa Ellis. Sue married Mitchel Lipsey in 1965 and to this union had two daughters, Gaynell and Tomieka. Moving to Michigan from Greenville, Mississippi, she worked for General Motors for 18 years.

Sue was a foster parent for the State of Michigan for 41 years, opening her home for over two hundred children. She was a seamstress, interior decorator, and loved working crossword puzzles. Sue was a member of the Mt. Moriah Missionary Baptist Church.

Sue leaves to cherish her loving memory six daughters, Gaynell (Ken Sr.) Smith, Arlington, Texas, Tomieka (Eddie Jr.) Peoples, Bauchen Lipsey, Patricia Leaphart-Lipsey, Ayreanna Lipsey, Madisonn Hatfield, all of Saginaw, Michigan; four sons, Steven Lipsey, Sarasota, Florida, Dottis Lipsey, Tyrone Jackson-Lipsey, Tony Jackson Lipsey, all of Saginaw, Michigan; three sisters, Gwen (Kaiser) Brown, Madison, Mississippi, Carolyn Johnson, Saginaw, Michigan, Clarissa Carrillo, Omaha, Nebraska; two brothers, Nathan (Yvonne) Ellis, Frank (Brenda) Ellis, Cape Coral, Florida; fourteen grandchildren, Ta’Teiona Lipsey, Ke’Ontae Price, Jamel Lipsey, Bry’Anna Jones, Me’A Peoples, Christopher Peoples, Lamara Lipsey, Tony Jackson Jr., all of Saginaw, Michigan, Ken Jr. (Rashina) Smith, Shiloh Smith, Mitchell Smith, Arlington, Texas, Akia Lipsey, Angel Lipsey, Noah Lipsey, Sarasota, Florida; seven great-grandchildren and many other loved ones.

Mrs. Lipsey was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Rosa Ellis; brothers, Ulysses, Franchat and Derrick Ellis; sister, Rose Mary Little; great-granddaughter, Ja’Miya Lipsey; brother- in-law, Emmitt Johnson; long-time friend Saul Rancher; special friends, JoAnn (Artie) Short, Irma Knight, Ruby Lee and Gloria Lyons-Miller; godsons, Torrey Atkins and DeAndre Shephard.
