Gladys Moore

June 28, 1927 — March 7, 2019

Our beloved mother, grandmother and sister, Gladys Moore, gained her heavenly wings and went to be with the Lord on Thursday, March 7, 2019 at the age of 91 years. She was born on June 28, 1927 to Fred and Jennie Martin in Hazelhurst, Mississippi.

Gladys married Smith Milfred Moore in 1946. She relocated to Saginaw, Michigan in 1953. She joined True Vine Missionary Baptist Church and was a long-standing member.

Gladys loved to travel back home to Mississippi and New Orleans. She was a craftsman and often made latchet hooked rugs. In her younger years, she was an entrepreneur and ran a daycare in her home. She liked to watch television, specifically Law and Order and The Young and the Restless. She was an avid fan of the Detroit Pistons and loved to watch them play.

More than anything, she enjoyed being around her children and grandchildren. She loved to cook for them and made the best banana pudding from scratch. Those southern home cooked meals made with love will be missed but we’re grateful for the legacy she left.

Gladys was preceded in death by her husband, Smith Moore, Sr.; parents, Fred Sr. and Jennie Martin; sisters, Mary Lee Corley, Dessie Ree “Shug” Spencer, Christine Martin, Ally May Martin; brother, Fred Martin, Jr.; grandson, Tyrone Pearson; daughter-in-law, Lona Moore.

She leaves to honor her memory five daughters, Jeanette Cassell, Joyce Adams, Marjorie (Craig) Williams, Sittina Moore, Domonique Moore; four sons, Smith Jr. (Barbara), Freddie, William, Glenn (Jerry) Moore; sister, Minister Bernice Newsom; sisters-in-law, Joanne Herring, Marjorie Turner; brother-in-law, Quinton (Bobby) Moore; thirty-one grandchildren; fifty-nine great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
