On Tuesday, November 20, 2018, Gloria F. Smith, loving mother of two, grandmother of five, great grandmother of four, sister and friend to many, went home to live with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Gloria was born on June 7, 1950 to Reverend Robert and Louise (Morris) Jenkins. She attended Mississippi Valley State University where she studied early elementary education and later went on to earn a Bachelor of Science Administration degree from Central Michigan University.
Gloria moved to Saginaw in 1974 and married Carl A. Smith in 1982. She went to work for the Michigan Employment Security Commission and after 27 years of faithful service she retired. In 2005, Gloria became the visionary and director of Pattycake Playhouse Childcare & Preschool Center, now Building Blocks Childcare in Saginaw where she positively impacted hundreds of families and children throughout the city.
Affectionately known as “Ms. Gloria”, she will be most remembered by her sophistication, beauty, wisdom, loyalty, poise, overall classy disposition and her love for God. She enjoyed cooking, spending time with her family and loved to shop!
Gloria was reunited with her husband, Carl Smith and parents, Robert and Louise Jenkins on Tuesday, November 20, 2018.
She is survived by her daughters, Yolanda (Fredrick) Irvin, Nicole (Sylvester) Liggins; grandchildren, Darrel Young, Sr., Kilp Young, Jr., Kayla Young, Jason Nolan, Jr., Parc Liggins; great-grandchildren, Darrel Young, Jr., Xavion Young, Davarion Young, Layana Young; sisters, Shirley (Maurice) Conway, Claudine Evans, Barbara Felton, Dr. Doris (Billy) Thompson; brother, Garey (Lisa) Jenkins; special friends, Barbara McCloud, Maxine Douglass, Vickie Peoples, Linda Collins-Graham, Kennye Westbrook; special family member, Patricia Wise; goddaughter, ShaRease Price; many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
