Gordon Richards (Lansing)

December 24, 1934 — December 22, 2022

Mr. Gordon Richards went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, December 22, 2022, at StoryPoint Grand Ledge in Grand Ledge, Michigan. Age 87 years. He was born December 24, 1934, in Lansing, Michigan. He was the son of John Clayton Richards and Mary Frances Richards.


Gordon lived in Lansing, then moved to Mason, Michigan and back to Lansing. He was a lifelong member of Mt. Hope United Methodist Church. Gordon Graduated from Lansing Eastern High School in 1952; attended college at Lansing Community College and Central Michigan University before hiring into General Motors, Oldsmobile Division as a draftsman. He worked for GM Oldsmobile for 34 years and a few years at Troy Design after that. Gordon enjoyed hunting, fishing, snowmobiling and woodworking. He coached church youth basketball at the YMCA and both coached and played fast pitch softball in his church league. Gordon was a Cub Scout/Webelos Leader and loved going to his cabin for over 50 years. He enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s sporting and musical events. Gordon was an easy going, caring, compassionate man.


He leaves to cherish his memory his son, Scott (Michelle) Richards; stepchildren, Valerie (Douglas) DeMartin and Heather (Karl) Hanover; stepson-in-law, Ronald Smith; grandchildren, Christy Richards and Michael (Norma) Richards; step grandchildren, Rachael and Matt Smith, Louise, Isabelle and William DeMartin, Katherine, Simon, and Samuel Hanover; great grandchildren, Henry, Eva, and Eloise Richards and Logan and Harper Gleason; cousins, Audrey (David) Putman and James (Katherine) Cornell; brother-in-law, Karl (Mary) Hosford, many other relatives and friends.


He was preceded in death by his wife, Carol Lee Richards (1934-1986; married May 21, 1955); second wife, Shirley Moray Richards (1935-2017; married March 3, 1990); son, David Carl Richard (1960-2019); parents, John Clayton Richards and Mary Frances Hitchens; grandparents, William John Richards and Anne Collick, Samuel Hitchens and Mary Mabel Rusden; aunt and uncle, Marjorie Hitchens and Robert E. Cornell; mother-in-law, Dorothy Lavern Griffin and father-in-law, Reynolds William Hosford.
