Gregory Howard Nickleberry Sr. passed away Thursday, March 28, 2013 at Covenant Healthcare-Harrison. Age 64 years. He was born September 23, 1948 in Saginaw, Michigan to Vernon and Marie Nickleberry.
A lifelong resident of Saginaw, Michigan, Gregory was a graduate of Saginaw High School class of 1966. He furthered his education by receiving an associates degree from Delta College. Gregory had various jobs but none captured his heart more than counseling those dealing with addiction. At the age of 41 years, he began working for First Ward Community Center where he counseled those battling with addiction. He continued this fight until his health began to fail. Gregory had a great sense of humor, love to talk and fish. He was best known as one of the sharpest dressing men in the Saginaw area. His presence will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Gregory leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 46 years, Joan Nickleberry; one daughter, Thomasine Nickleberry; three sons, Gregory H. Nickleberry Jr., Charles (Shawn) Williams Nickleberry, Darnell (Constance) Louis; twenty-nine grandchildren, that were deeply loved and cherished which includes Monique and Trevian Nickleberry whom he and his wife raised as their own; twelve great-grandchildren; his beloved nieces and nephews, Anita Arthur Chester, Aretha (Don) Arthur Anderson, Autrola Arthur Washington, Delores Taylor, Apral Williams, James Williams, Terry Poole, Alphonse Poole and Mary Foote; four sisters-in-law, Thomasine Murray, Gwendolyn Lavender, Joyce Williams, Arlynn Smith; many other relatives and friends including special friends, Henry Hatfield, Garfield Lawson Sr. and Omawole Art Smith.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Vernon and Marie Nickleberry, mother and father-in-law, Lela Mae and Leroy Charles Williams, two brothers, James V. and Ronnie Nickleberry, one sister, Brenda Nickleberry Aron, his best friend, Theodis Turner.
The family wishes to express special thanks to god-daughter, Deidre Sanders, nieces, Anita Arthur Chester and Kimberly Wright, nephew, Michael Williams, friend, Mr. Lavell Johnson, daughter-in-law, Shawn Turner and family friend, Margie Dallas.
