Gregory (Spates) Clark

Gregory (Spates) Clark, our beloved father, son, brother, uncle, great-uncle, nephew, great-nephew and friend departed this life on Friday, September 8, 2017 at the age of 57 years. Greg was born in Saginaw, Michigan on June 8, 1960 to Leona Spates and Walter Jones, and was reared by the late Alfred Lewis Spates. Greg was the oldest of his three sisters, two brothers and all of his cousins.

Greg was educated in Saginaw Public Schools and was a veteran of the United States Army. He worked in many different industries throughout the United States. Because Greg was the oldest of all of the grandchildren, he was known as “The Almanac” because he remembered so many different family stories. He always called himself "number one" because he was the first and the oldest grandchild.

Greg leaves his legacy of faith and love to his loving son, Jordan Kole Napolitano, Saginaw, Michigan; mother, Leona Spates (DeEddie Sanders), Saginaw, Michigan; father, Walter (Charlene) Jones, Saginaw, Michigan; two sisters, Delena (Eddie) Spates-Allen, Saginaw, Michigan; Cassandra (Festus) Adagbonyin, Jackson, Mississippi; two brothers, Dwight (CeCe) Jones, Glen Allen, Virginia; Johnny (Margaret) Jones, New York, New York; three nieces, ShaRease (Pastor Tariq) Price, Saginaw, Michigan; BreAna Allen, Phoenix, Arizona, Candace Adagbonyin, Jackson, Mississippi; four nephews, Damon, Dominic, Jordan and Nelson Adagbonyin, Jackson, Mississippi; he also leaves two special great-nieces, DeLeana and Nylah Price; two special great-nephews, Masen and Kasen Price, all of Saginaw, Michigan; grandfather, Odie Carruth, Saginaw, Michigan; aunts, Marcetta (Frank) Dillard, Auburn Hills, Michigan; Jamesetta (Emmitt) Christian, Decatur, Georgia; Norma Thomas, Sona Carruth, Odeania Carruth, Charlotte Carruth, Brenda McFarland, Lucinda Taylor, Barbara (Gordon) Nichols, Sarah Jones and Louise Jones, all of Saginaw, Michigan; Elberta Phelps, Memphis, Tennessee, Patricia Harris, Hampton, Virginia; Billie Jones, Decherd, Tennessee; uncles, Stevie (Ann) Carruth, Danville, Illinois, Earl Hinds, Memphis, Tennessee; Sammie (Truthia) Jones, Saginaw, Michigan; four great-aunts, Rosie (Thomas) Bell, Dunnellon, Florida, Revenia Brewer, Barbara Pickett, Gary, Indiana, Connie Hart, Pontiac, Michigan; four great-uncles, Frederick Washington, Saginaw, Michigan, Jerry Gray, Gary, Indiana, William Gray, Detroit, Michigan; many cousins whom he loved dearly; special cousins, Damon Clark and Perry McFarland; many friends including his Saginaw AA District 18 family.

He was preceded in death by his step-father, Alfred L. Spates; sister, Evelyn Faye Spates; grandmothers, Sona Carruth, Sally Hinds and Bobbie Jones; grandfathers, James Clark, Sr. and Mack Jones; uncles, James Clark, Jr., Wilson Jones, Edward Jones, John Jones and a very special uncle, Henderson Jones; special cousins, Darrick Carruth and Alanda Taylor, along with many other relatives.
