Harold Whatley (Lansing)

January 14, 1930 — November 7, 2020

Brother Harold Whatley, age 90 passed into Eternal Life Saturday, November
7, 2020. He was born January 14, 1930, in Columbus, Georgia to Holsey and
Mattie Lee (Bryant) Whatley.

Harold received an Honorable Discharge from the United States Army in 1953. Shortly after, he moved to Lansing, Michigan then began working for General Motors, Oldsmobile retiring in 1998 with 45 years of dedicated service. Harold’s favorite pastime was fishing, making many trips to Rice Lake in Canada, as well as smelt dipping during the spring. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather (Papa), brother, uncle, and friend. He will be deeply missed.

Harold leaves to cherish his precious memories his wife of 66 years, Loney B. (Walker) Whatley; son, Harold P. (Marie A.) Whatley, Jr.; daughter, Barbara M. Whatley (“the apple of his eye”); grandchildren, Demaurie Q.Whatley (#1 grandson), Destini M. Evans (“Destareno”), Marie A. Roman, and Toni A. Whatley; sisters, Carrie Zellner, Mattie Bradley, Mary Alice Clark. and many other relatives and friends, including his best friend, closer than a brother, Albert Thrash.

Harold was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Martha Flowers, Annie
Zellner; and Willie Mae Lamb who passed away following Harold on November 19, 2020.
