Mr. Harry Dean Sims passed away Saturday, April 8, 2023, at his residence in Saginaw, Michigan. Age 68 years. Harry was born May 1, 1954, in Popular Grove, Arkansas, to James Sims and Odessa Young.
Harry was a resident of Saginaw, Michigan. He attended St. Joseph, Sts. Peter and Paul Schools, Delta College, and Saginaw Business Institute. He retired from Saginaw Steering Gear/Delphi after 30 years of service in 2006, Plant 3 in the Pump Room Erie Line Up. Harry was affiliated with UAW Local 699. He loved basketball, watching sports, taking his boat out, fishing, grilling, and spending time with family. Harry was very loyal, and dependable, and he always took care of business. Harry was family- oriented, outspoken, and blunt. He was a great husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and cousin.
He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 30 years, Dorothy J. Sims; one daughter, Sandy Calhoun; two sons, Michael Tross, and Shakir Sims; grandchildren, Shakir Sims Jr., Sha’Kia Sims, Antwan and Antonio Jones, Ayanna Robinson, Nickole Anderson, Falcon, Naomi, Michael Jr., Ikela, Jalen, Azar, Amiah Ward, Darryl Calhoun, Gabrielle (Anthony) Brown, Shandas Hughes, Anthony Miller Jr., Antwon Miller, and Antwenette Miller; great-grandchildren, A’Yanna, AnDraya, and Journee Medina, Ziya Jones, Anthony Brown Jr., Harley Brown, Carter, Shanterria, and Justice Hughes; grandparents, Johnny Young Sr., and Bertha Young; three sisters, Sonya Turner, Linda Patterson, Toni Sims Peterson (Charles), and Rhonda Sims; three brothers, Pernel Sims, Charles Sims, and Larese Sims; uncles, James Young Sr., Johnny Young Jr., and Jerome Young; a host of cousins, nieces, and nephews, including special cousins, James Young Jr. (Shirley), and Melvin (Kim) Coleman; brother-in-law, Earl (Evelynn) Miller; many other relatives and friends including special friends, Daryl Currington, Noland King, Isaac Weathers, Rev. James Lewis, Fred Johnson, Sandy Hall, Wilbert Lyons, Rickey Argumedo, Gilbert Perez, Spencer Adams, Don Green, Don Graves, Deon Dillard, Mickey Jones, Ester Benson, Charles Tate, Randy at Circle K Party Store, and Willie ‘Dog’.
Harry was preceded in death by his mother, Odessa Young, father, James Sims Jr., Brenda Sims, Wondolyn Sims, Gwendolyn Jakes, Belford Williams Jr., Antwon Jones-Sims, Derrick Baker, Mary Lou Gloss, Anthony Miller, and Todd (Merria) Woods.
