Harry Hubbard, Jr. (Holt)

Mr. Harry George Hubbard, Jr. passed away Friday, December 18, 2020, at his residence in Holt, Michigan. Age 66 years. He was born August 31, 1954, in Greenville, Mississippi the son of Robert Simon, Sr. and Percy Jean Simon and Charlie Essex.

Harry was an ordained deacon at Faith Fellowship Church and an ordained pastor at New Testament Assemblies of God. He graduated from the Bible Training Institute of Mount Hope Church in Lansing, Michigan. Harry attended Saginaw High School and was a member of the graduating Class of 1972. He served in the United States Army from 1974 until his honorable discharge in 1977. Harry then served in the United States Army Reserve Military Police from 1977 through 1983. He attended MoTech Automotive Education Center from 1985-1986 where he earned his master’s Certified Automotive Services of Excellence (ASE). Harry worked for the State of Michigan automotive services from 1985-1994. He transferred to the State of Michigan Department of Corrections, where he worked from July 5, 1994, until his retirement on December 1, 2019. Harry enjoyed spending time with his family. His hobbies included golf, playing pool, camping, playing poker, music especially Jazz and old school R&B. Harry is a long-time motorcycle club member of Innkeepers Motorcycle Club of Saginaw, Michigan, president of Son of Zodiac Motorcycle Club of Saginaw, Michigan, and founder of Boogie Down Motorcycle Club of Jackson, Michigan.

He leaves to cherish his loving memory, his wife, Yvonne Hubbard; daughters, LaKeisha Purifoy and Kuhani Anjiku; grandchildren, David McPherson, Jr., Brian Brown, Angel Purifoy, Timothy Purifoy, Isaiah Radford, and Raymond Stone; parents, Robert Simon and Percy Jean Simon; 6 sisters, Cloretha Wilborn, Elsie (Carl) Lane, Jennifer Ceberna (Marvin) Sanders, Yvette Green, Gwendolyn Jones and Deidre Essex; 4 brothers, Robert (Lisa) Simon, Darrell (Diane) Simon, Michael (LaDonna) Simon and Harold (Ruby) Essex; 3 aunts, Josephine Wills, Bourah Jean Cook and Ela Simmons; 2 sisters-in-law, Jacqueline (David) Prescott and Lovette Swilley; 3 brothers-in-law, David (Mattie) Swilley, Steffond Swilley and Tyrone (Queen) Swilley; many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends including special relatives and friends, Jermaine Swilley, Clifford Simon, Roger Gross, Malcolm O’Bryan, Rasool Waters, Roger Weathers, Isaac “Main” Swilley, Elmer “Monk” Swilley and Tosha Sykes.

He was preceded in death by his father, Charlie Essex; grandmother, Clora Wilborn; father-in-law, William E. Swilley; mother-in-law, Essie Mae Swilley; and brother-in-law, James “Tamp” Swilley.
