Hi family and friends. As they say, “can’t nobody tell your story like you tell your story,” so here it goes. I was born in Blanton, Alabama on November 14, 1924 to John Ernest and Rebecca Murphy. I came to Bay City, Michigan in 1942 and married Steve Sisson in 1946.
I had ten children but raised twelve. Yes, I said twelve. I have been a member of The Historic Second Baptist Church for over seventy years, but what you need to know is I was saved by the blood of Jesus a long time ago.
Let me tell you a little about my work history. I was employed by Wenona and Empire Hotels as a housekeeper. I also worked housekeeping services for Delta Ford. My hobbies were gardening, fishing and I was a big Tigers and Braves fan. Oh, and my dog Nyiah, I really loved her.
Did y’all know my services at Second Baptist Church included being a member of the mission, kitchen committee, president of the senior usher board and being honored by my Pastor as a Mother of the Church? Yes, but what has been the most important tribute to my life is my children, grandchildren and the Lord.
So, if you’re looking for me, the Lord has called me home. I’m up here in heaven just like John, and January 30th, 2019 was the end to a perfect day.
I was preceded in death by my parents, John E. and Rebecca Murphy; daughter, Canzella Sisson; granddaughter, Veronica; brothers, Ernest and Willie Murphy; sister-in-law, Louise Murphy; special friends, William Daniels, Mary Alice Walker, Dorothy, Mazola and Delories.
I leave to celebrate my life eleven children, Johnnie (Barbara) Murphy, Charlotte Sisson, Steve Sisson Jr., Gerald (Ruth Ann) Sisson, Ernest (Linda) Sisson, Barbara (Dr. Ricky) Layton, Myra (Otis Jr.) Liggins, Tina (Bobby) Dawson, Victoria Phillips, Katrina Sisson, Thomas (Meredith) Sisson; thirty-two grandchildren; thirty-three great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren and one on the way; three nieces; four nephews; sister-in-law, Leotha Murphy; a host of great-nieces and nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends, including special children, William, Tracey, Ronnie Daniels; special friends, Mary and John Prince; special nieces, Brenda Billingsea, Cynthia Johnson; special son, Robert Davenport.
