Hattie Torrence

Mother Hattie G. Torrence departed this life on Saturday, February 23, 2013 at Manor Care Health Services in Parma, Ohio. Age 90 years. She was born May 30, 1922 in Safford, Alabama to Johnny Taylor and Ollie Waddy.
Mother Torrence accepted Christ at an early age and was united with the Little Canaan Primitive Baptist Church in Safford, Alabama under the leadership of Pastor J.T. Alexander. She was a true believer of God. Mother Torrence moved to Saginaw, Michigan in 1971 and became a member of Galilee Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Columbus Clayton. She later united with New Life Ministries under the leadership of Pastor Rufus Bradley where she served as a deaconess and later the motherboard. Her health failed and caused her to take many turns in her life. She moved to Garfield Heights, Ohio and became a member of Mt. Victory Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Leroy Virgies. Everyone affectionately called her Mother Torrence (Madea). She was the wife of Deacon John Torrence Sr. for 46 years.
She leaves to cherish her memory three daughters, Sarah Woodford, Atlanta, Georgia, Ollie (Elbert) Roach, Murfreesboro, Tennessee, Jeanette (Pastor Leroy) Virgies, Garfield Heights, Ohio; two sons, John (Viola) Torrence Jr., Oliver (Diane) Torrence, both of Saginaw, Michigan; seventeen grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; two godsons, Pastor James Hodge and Terry Waller; one sister, Maggie Crums, Mobile, Alabama; one brother, William Waddy, Safford, Alabama; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends including a very dear friend, Mother Willie Neal of Saginaw, Michigan.
Mother Torrence was preceded in death by her husband, Deacon John Torrence Sr., one daughter, Harriet Solomon.
The family would like to express special thanks to her devoted daughter, Jeanette Virgies and Manor Care Nursing Home in Parma, Ohio.
