Having accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age, we are assured that her soul is in His care. Throughout her years in the Lansing area Helen has worshipped and served at several churches before completing her service at Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church under Dr. Walter Gibson, Jr. A graduate of Lansing Community Colleges Nursing program, she spent her early career as a surgical nurse at Sparrow Hospital. She later retired from General Motors in 1994 after 27 years of service. Her door was always ajar, her pots always full, her coffee always warm, and her arms always open just like her heart. Helen loved holidays and family get-togethers; any chance to cook for and spend time with her family was important to her, and everybody was family.
She was preceded in death by her parents Emmett and Virginia Cannon; daughter, Sheila Chastine; sisters, Dorothy (Arthur - deceased) Hall, Juanita Cannon, and Thelma Cannon; and brothers, Elzie Candy (Mary), and Ralph Cannon.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory, her son, Dennis Morrison, Jr.; grandchildren, TaShara (David) Alvarado, Leslie Flourry, Dennis Morrison, III, Dalton Morrison, Alexis Morrison, and Liesa Morrison; a host of great-grandchildren; sisters, Earsie Rhodes, Bettye Alexander of St. Louis, Mo., and Lavern Robinson of Hope, Ark.; brothers, Emmett, Jr. (Patricia) and James (Patricia); an abundant host of nieces and nephews. A large circle of esteemed, adopted daughters, sons, grandchildren, and so many other special friends, that she held near and dear to her heart, remain to cherish her memory.
