Mr. Herman Cooper passed away on Thursday, October 12, 2017 at the Aleda E. Lutz Veterans Administration Medical Center. Age 79 years. He was born on December 26, 1937 in West Monroe, Louisiana to Elmore Cooper and Annie Mae Gulley.
Mr. Cooper, a resident of Saginaw, Michigan, attended high school and joined the U.S. Army in 1957 where he worked as a construction machine operator. He attended Freedom Full Gospel Church under the leadership of Pastor Eddie Bragg. Herman enjoyed fishing, hunting and cooking, and was an excellent handyman. Mr. Cooper, a man of wisdom, loved helping people whether it was fixing items, giving advice or sharing the goodness of Jesus.
Herman leaves to cherish his memory two daughters and two sons, Phyllis Cooper, Phoenix, Arizona, Theresa Cooper, Saginaw, Michigan, Reginnald and Ranndy Cooper, both of Saginaw, Michigan; his former wife, Mary L. Cooper, Waterford, Michigan; nineteen grandchildren, Shawnda Cooper, Donovan Wenn, Dametria Neal, Reginnald Cooper, Jr., Breika Cooper, Reteika Cotton, Ranndy Cooper, Jr., Donovan Cooper, Venerannda Leon Guerero, LaVon Childs, Kingston Neuman, Joleen Cruz, Tia Blair, Shermein (Simone) Cooper, Evee (Arial) Cooper, Perris Moncrief, Alfred Moncrief and Tialer Cooper; forty-eight great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Linda Sanders-Burns, Plano, Texas; three brothers, Dave, Walter and Billy Ray Rayford, all of Pontiac, Michigan; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends; goddaughters, Trina Kaiser, Rosalind Warren; special friends, Pastor Dallas, Jerry and Ruby Murphy, LaTrenda Johnson, Murphy Layton, Ben Babers and family; special cousin, Merle Collins.
Mr. Cooper was preceded in death by his parents, Elmore Cooper and Annie Mae Gulley; two great-grandsons, Andre Jones and Quintae Cooper; two sisters, Catherine Sanders and Iradell Rayford; one uncle, Bishop Cooper; one nephew, Anthony Sanders; mother-in-law, Willie Mae Garth-Hickman.
The family expresses special thanks to the staff at VA Hospital Building 22, 5th floor staff at Covenant Healthcare-Cooper, Pastor/Co-Pastor Eddie L. and Margaret Bragg and Freedom Full Gospel Church family, and a very special thanks to Yelly.
