Houston Jackson

February 13, 1937 — June 2, 2024

Houston Jackson went home to be with the Lord on June 2, 2024. Born in Aliceville, AL, Houston was a devoted husband, a loving father, and a hard-working man who took immense pride in providing for his family.

Houston was married to Isabella Jackson for 57 years, honoring their commitment since their wedding on September 17, 1966. He was a dedicated employee at GM Malleable Iron, where he worked tirelessly for 35 years without missing a single day. His commitment and strong work ethic were admired by all who knew him.

One fun fact is that Houston, in his younger years, enjoyed playing the blues and dancing with his daughters in the living room on the weekends playing his 8 tracks.

A faithful member of Messiah Missionary Baptist Church, under the guidance of Pastor Otis Washington, Houston found joy in singing with the Male Chorus. He delighted in praising the Lord, clapping his hands, and lifting his voice in worship.

Houston served his country with honor, spending four years in the Army. He was a proud veteran who carried the values of service and dedication throughout his life.

An advocate for health and fitness, Houston loved to fish and hunt as a young man. Later in life, he enjoyed riding his bike, weightlifting, and walking briskly around his neighborhood. His commitment to maintaining a clean bill of health was inspiring.

Houston is survived by his loving wife, Isabella Jackson; children: four sons, Deron Jackson, and Leslie (Ivo) Jackson of Grand Rapids, MI; Lavoris Griffin of Detroit, MI; Brian (LaSalle) Jackson of Delaware, OH; and two daughters, Delphine Jackson, and Dwan (Mark) Bryant, TX. His special goddaughter, Vera Conerly of Benton Harbor, MI, also mourns his passing.

He was a grandfather to 15 grandchildren: Deron “Boo” Jackson, Israel Jackson, Zion Jackson, Zoe Jackson, Levi Jackson,  Mark Bryant Jr., Madisan Bryant, Jonathan Bryant, Morgan Bryant, Deonte Jackson, Darius Jackson, Joshua Hugley, Starr Griffin, and Lee Griffin. Houston was also blessed with three great-grandchildren: Nyla Jackson, Mark III, and MarShon Bryant.

Houston is survived by his last sibling, his sister, Laura Jackson of Jamaica, NY. He also leaves behind his sisters-in-law Mary Jane Jackson of Aliceville, AL; Alice Brown and Angie Ryans of Saginaw, MI; and Evelyn Griffin, NY. Many special nephews and nieces will fondly remember him.

Houston Jackson will be deeply missed but never forgotten. He leaves behind cherished memories with good neighbors Mrs. Bobbi Grandberry-Wright, Joey and Lisa Hunt, Oscar and Annie Gonzalez, and dear friends Dennis and Gale Porter, Douglass Williams, Yvonne Sanders, and Eugene Bell. Favorite uncle, James Eli (Elizabeth) Jackson Sr. His special cousin, James Jackson from Southfield, Michigan, holds a significant place in his heart.

Houston was preceded in death by his parents, Sam and Mattie Jackson; his father and mother-in-law, Henry and Mary Hannibal; in-laws Martha (Wilton) Scott, Mary (Willie) Bracey, and Ada (Lucius) Mayfield; his brothers Sam (Florence) Jackson, Jimmy Jackson, Joe Jackson, Warren Jackson, Mary Jackson, and L.B. Roodruff; his granddaughter Lael Jackson, and his special cousin, Nella Jackson.

Houston Jackson's legacy of hard work, dedication, and faith will forever remain in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him. May he rest in eternal peace.
