Idella Robison passed away Sunday, October 23, 2011 at Heartland Health Care Center of Saginaw. Age 92 years. Idella Portis was born September 22, 1919 in Birmingham, Alabama to proud parents, Deacon Bennie and Annie Portis.
Idella moved to Michigan in 1929, attending Saginaw Public Schools; moving to Detroit she was employed for American Cleaners. In 1942, she was one of the first black women hired by General Motors; She retired after 35 years moving back to Saginaw to take care of her lovely parents until their demise; She was affiliated with Church of God in Christ; She married Clarence T. Thompson and to this union was born one son, Ahmed Kareem Jabbar.
She leaves to cherish her memory devoted son, Ahmed Jabbar; aunt Sally Davis of Mobile Alabama; cousin, Lula Belvin of Saginaw, Michigan; 4 grandchildren; Herman Gibson, Columbus, Ohio, Timekia Thompson and Ahmad G. Jabbar, Los Angeles California and Erika Hudson, Saginaw, MI; 4 great -grand children, Carl, Keontae, Jovontay and Joshua; god children, Belinda J. Barkley and Corey L. Barkley; special friends, Eugene Robison, Deirdre Lewis and Kathryn Dukes.
She was preceeded in death by her parents Deacon and Mother Bennie Portis.
