Irene Mannie, a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and sister transitioned this life on Wednesday, November 11, 2009.
Irene was born June 8, 1946 in Taylorsville, Mississippi to Cleveland and Ruby (Cooper) Burnell. As a teen, Irene had a passion for basketball and led her team to many victories. As a mother, Irene loved her children very much. Her compassion for people was astounding. Irenes house and heart was always open to assist anyone who needed a place to stay or a helping hand. Irene retired after 33 years of service from the Lansing and Saginaw United States Postal Service, where her leadership abilities were clearly demonstrated as she successfully held many supervisory positions. Irene loved to travel and entertain her family and friends. She will always be remembered for cooking good food, making you laugh, and having fun. Irene was a member of Greater Williams Temple C.O.G.I.C. before leaving Saginaw.
Irene leaves to cherish her memory four children, Lee (Jackie) Mannie Jr. of Bay City, MI, Tammie (Marcus) Mannie-Erby of Westland, MI, Brad (Catrina) Mannie of Saginaw, MI, and Brian (Mashondra) Mannie of Westland, MI; nineteen grandchildren, Lee Mannie III, Marcus, Brian and Irene Mannie (Andrews), Brian Moore Jr., Ashley, Brad Mannie Jr., Tyreice, Kiara, Charlese, DVontre, DAntre, Breon, Brandon, Julius, Devonta, Sania, Justin, and Bryce; five great-grandchildren, Unique, Tyrek, Mikayla, Marcus Jr.; her mother, Ruby Burnell; three brothers and four sisters, Jettye Young, Ray (Ethel) Young, Mary (Clyde) White, Herschel (Jerri) Burnell, Shirley Drain, Barbara (Pastor Ron) Turner, and Donald (Jackie) Burnell; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends including special friends: Donald Eiland, Linda Berry, Charlie Dunn and Charlie Kolah.
Irene was preceded in death by her father, Cleveland Cooper; brother, Clifton Cooper; sister, Atty. Mattie Long, brothers-in-law, George Young and Charlie Mannie, sister-in-law, Ann Mannie; and nieces, Katrina Henderson and Ruby Jean Cooper.
The Mannie children would like to express special thanks to Grandma Ruby, Aunt Jettye and her family, and all of our aunts and uncles for all your love and support.
