Irene Mccaskey

Our beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and a wonderful friend, was called home to be with the Lord on Saturday, January 29, 2022, at home surrounded by her loving family.

Irene McCaskey was born on October 31, 1945 to Mose Washington and Clara Oliver Washington. She confessed Christ at a young age and later joined Mt. Sinai Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. Robert Harris, and continued to serve faithfully under the leadership of Rev. Chevez Marshall, until God called her home. She was a dedicated employee at K-Mart for over 25 years and retired. Shortly after, Irene was employed at Burlington Coat Factory for 17 years until her health caused her early retirement in January, 2017.

She leaves to cherish loving memories her loving husband of 53 years, Kossie McCaskey; her daughter, Christa McCaskey; a special son, Derrick Burch; granddaughter, Shawndrea Calvert; great-granddaughter, Jhi’Mari Calvert; three sisters and two brothers, Clara Washington, Sara (Marvin) Walker, Onetha Gibson-McDougald, Joe Washington, and Roy Washington; two special goddaughters, Catrina Hall and Quintella Johnson; her in-laws, Wila-Ray Belvin, Grace (Willie) Townsend, Sandy (Georgia) McCaskey; and a special mother, Annette Potter; a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and dear friends.

Irene was preceded in death by both mother and father, Clara Oliver-Washington and Mose Washington; sister, Josephine Carter; two brothers, Johnny Chatman and Willie A. Washington.
