Jack went to West Junior High School and J. W. Sexton High School in Lansing, Michigan. He worked at Diamond Reo Plant. Jack was known as a handyman; he was a jack of all trades.

He leaves to cherish his memory the love of his life for 31 years, Mary McClain; 2 daughters, Gloria Greer and Irma Hernandez; 3 sons, Jack Greer, Jr., Jesus Hernandez and Derrick Jackson; stepdaughter, Meia Bator; grandchildren, Jazmine, Nattasha, Aliciana, Leon Greenwood, Jr., Jacob, Alyssa, Jordan, Alondra, Illiana, Demetrius Greer, Michael Greer, Dakari Davis, Trayveon Davis, and Carl Roberts, Jr.; great-grandchildren, Devonte Greer and Ayden Greer; 2 sisters, Janette Cox, Lansing, Michigan and Habeban Abdul-Raheem, Fort Wayne, Indiana; 2 brothers, Stanley Roper, Lansing and Eesa Abdul-Hakim, Kansas City; aunts, Florine Roper, Virginia Terry and Ruby Roper; nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends including Claudine Ward and Herschel Roper.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Odessa and Ernest Roper, sisters, Diane Roper and Sharon K. Roper; brothers, Herman Roper and Sharif Adbula-Hasan.
