James A. Drake Jr., husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and friend to all who knew him went home to be with the Lord Saturday, March 10, 2012 at Covenant Healthcare-Cooper after a lengthy illness. Age 89 years. He was born December 25, 1922 in Charleston, Mississippi to Lucille Hayes and Arthur Drake Sr.
He moved to Saginaw, Michigan in 1965 and worked at General Motors Grey Iron Foundry. He retired after 39 years of service in 2004. He was a member of UAW Local 668. His passions were hunting, fishing and spending time with his family and friends.
He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 35 years, Mary Drake; his children and their spouses, Mr. and Mrs. McArthur Drake, Eddie Drake, Hattie Drake, Mr. and Mrs. Michael Conrad, Barbara Ann Drake, Dorothy Drake, all of Missouri, Mr. and Mrs. Michael Austin, Virginia, Troy Wright, Florida, Reggie Wright, Saginaw, Michigan; he also leaves his brothers, John H. Drake, Tennessee, Eddie (Sonny) Smith, Wisconsin; three sisters, Doretha Drake, Pontiac, Michigan, Gretchen Drake, Detroit, Michigan, Paulina Smith, Mississippi; special brothers-in-law, Albert and Ennis Barefield; 47 grandchildren; 54 great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; many nieces and nephews.
James was predeceded in death by his mother Lucille Hayes and father Arthur Drake Sr., a sister, Bessie M. Stover.
The family would like to express special thanks to the Covenant Medical Center 7th floor ICU and 3rd floor CCU staff, his home nurse, Christine Hollingsworth who took care fo him faithfully for many years, Mr. and Mrs. Dwints Bowman and all the friends that supported his wife during his lengthy illness.
