James Edward Johnson

July 4, 1950 — January 2, 2018

On January 2, 2018, our beloved James Edward Johnson passed away after a brief illness. Age 67 years. We know that his suffering has stilled and he is truly at peace. James entered this world with “fireworks” on July 4, 1950 in Anguilla, Mississippi, the son of Leon and Bertha Payne.

Mr. Johnson was a resident of Saginaw, Michigan where he attended Saginaw High School. He enjoyed playing cards and spending time with his grandchildren. He was a fun-loving, free-spirit who loved everyone.

He leaves to cherish his memory the love of the his life over 36 years, Connie Bentley; Saginaw, Michigan; one daughter, Kayla Bentley; one son, Jimmie Bentley; five grandsons, Karter Johnson, Devon Martin, Jaden Jumper, JaMarcus Bentley-Hood and Peyton Bentley; two granddaughters, TeErikka Felix and Taylor Bentley-Hood; great-grandson, Jeffrey Franks, III; his parents, Leon and Bertha Payne; one sister, Temeco Payne; one step-sister, Pamela Payne; one step-brother, Kelvin (Sharon) Payne; many nieces including Ciara and Marquice Payne; many nephews including Nickolas Haley; three aunts, Bonnie Price, Barbara (Melvin) Connor and Sherry Price; three uncles, James (Doris) Price, Artie (Shirley) Price and Lovey Johnson; numerous cousins; two sisters-in-law, Lenora Clemmons and Charlene Dawkins; many other relatives and friends including a very special cousin, friend and brother, Eugene Johnson “Blu”, and Patrick Price.

James was preceded in death by one sister, Norma Jean Rockett; two aunts, Helen Price and Dorothy Wright; uncles, Earl, Pollard, II and Alonzo Price; grandparents, Helen and Pollard Price, Buster and Maggie Johnson; and uncle, L. C. Williams.

The family would like to thank Covenant Hospice Care and Lisa Payton for all the comfort they provided to our beloved James and family during this most difficult transition. As always, Eugene “Blu” Johnson, you are truly loved by us for your love for James.
