James Henry Young, Sr.

Mr. James Henry Young, Sr., 80, passed away on Sunday, February 4, 2024, at Covenant HealthCare Cooper. He was born on May 17, 1943, in Poplar Grove, Arkansas, to Johnny Sr. (Bertha) Young.

James, a General Motors (Chevrolet Grey Iron Foundry) retiree with 25 years of service, had many interests and hobbies including playing his numbers, watching basketball, his favorite TV shows (Judge Judy and Judge Mathis), and Gunsmoke. During his employment, James Henry was affiliated with UAW Local 668. These things James enjoyed, but he loved spending time with his family, giving good advice to those with whom he came in contact, being as “real” as he could be, and talking “junk.” James was well-known for his famous BBQ. He was a “beast” on the grill. He will never be forgotten by those who knew and loved him.

Cherishing loving memories are his wife, Gale Young, Saginaw, Michigan; four daughters and two sons, Donald Gail Young, Rochester, New York, Felton Wilborn-Young, Tyler, Texas, Lashell Young (Jeremiah), Rachell Young, Saginaw, Michigan, James Henry Young, Jr. (Shirley Land), and Jason L. Young, Sr., Saginaw, Michigan; one bonus son, Reno J. Worthington; goddaughter, Pearlie Mae (Lonnie) Henton; grandchildren, Lovelace Young, Jacqueline, Edwin, Andrea, Patrice and Isaac Peart, all of Rochester, New York, Katoria “Snoop” Farmer, Kathleen “Worm” Farmer, Saginaw, Michigan, Quintel “Quin” Young of Georgia, Jarvis Young, Jr., Nosaj, Kya, Tiah, and Jason Jr. “Lil J” Young, Terrence “T-Man” Cooper, Alasha “Bird” Moultrie, all of Saginaw, Michigan; twenty-eight great-grands; three great-great-grands; many nieces and nephews; two sisters-in-law, Betty J. Plowden, Saginaw, Michigan, and Mary (Ray) Peterson, Olive Branch, Mississippi; three brothers-in-law, Tony Price, Link Johnson, Johnnie (Lakeisha) Johnson, all of Saginaw, Michigan.

James Henry was preceded in death by his parents, Johnny Sr. (Bertha) Young; two brothers, Johnny and Jerome Young; two sisters, Odessa Sims, and Mary Gloss; two sons, Delton and Jarvis Young, Sr.; one grandson, Cortez Owens; special friends, Catherine Young, Larry Giles, and David Gillerson.
