Mr. James Alex Maffett passed away Tuesday, August 13, 2024, at the University of Michigan Health - Sparrow Mid-Michigan Hospice House in Lansing, Michigan. Age 94 years. He was born on Friday, August 16, 1929, the son of Mary Ann and Leon Maffett, Sr. in Rome, Georgia.
James was educated in the Lansing School District and earned his high school diploma from J. W. Sexton High School. He was married to Lois Moffett and had 3 children, Vicki, Stanley, and Ronny. James began working at Greyhound Bus Station, worked for the City of Lansing Maintenance Department, and as a security guard. He worked at Whitmore Lake W. J. Maxey Boys Training School and retired from there. James was a member of the Lincoln Center Class Reunion Committee, enjoyed dancing, which he was good at, loved Jazz, being the best dressed man any where he went, and loved to travel. He loved spending time with his family. James was a good supporter of the Lancaster/Maffett Family Reunion.
He leaves to cherish his memory his sons, Stanley Maffett, Mike Harris, and Marc Harris; grandchildren, Moya of Livonia, Michigan, Rahsaan, Tamone, and Spartacus all of Lansing, Michigan; nieces, Andrea, Pam, Sharon, Dionne and Pat; nephew, Jimmy; sisters-in-law, Geraldine Richardson and Bennie Black many great nieces, great nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends including special friends, Charnita Miller, Emmitt McGruder and Greg Eaton.
He was preceded in death by his son Michael Burton, daughter Vickie Maffett, and son Ronny Maffett; his parents; sisters, Mary (Lester) Fulson and Drusilla Jones; brothers, Leon Maffett, Jr. and Foster Maffett; nieces, Gloria Jean Maffett and Jean Moon; and nephew, Paul Maffett.
The family of James Maffett wishes to express our sincere gratitude to all of you for your prayers, presence, love, calls, and every act of kindness, that has given us strength and inspiration during this time of bereavement. May God bless each and every one of you.
