Our beloved father, grandfather, brother, uncle, great uncle, cousin, and friend, Mr. James Perkins, Jr., departed his earthly home on Sunday, January 2, 2022, at Covenant HealthCare Harrison, at the blessed age of 86 years. James was born to the late James and Maggie Scottland Perkins on March 30, 1935, in Perry County, Alabama.
James confessed Christ at an early age under the leadership of Reverend Jingles at Little Cannon Baptist Church of Stratford, Alabama. James worked in construction demolition, taking domes off the tallest buildings across the state. He was a guitar player, touching special interest in Jazz and blues. James would help anyone; money did not mean anything to him if he could not enjoy it with family and friends. He was a giver from the heart. He traveled many places in his lifetime. Mr. Perkins will be missed by family and friends.
James leaves to cherish his memories three children, Eugene (Marsha) Perkins, Aevi James Perkins, and one daughter, Chanta (Darren) Pritchett; eight grandchildren; eleven stepchildren; two sisters, Cora Thomas, Phoenix, Arizona; and Nora Perkins, Saginaw, Michigan; one sister-in-law, Ola Perkins, Richmond, Virginia; a host of nieces and nephews; and the mothers of his children, Wanda Reese and Gracie Davis.
James was preceded in death by his parents, James and Maggie Scottland Perkins, grandparents, Nathaniel, and Mary Perkins, Hattie Keith, and Lee Scotland; his only brother, William Perkins Sr.; one sister, Margaret Perkins, special niece, Felicia Perkins; aunts, Bertha Young, Alice Swift, Fannie Coleman, Rosie Brown, Mary Palmore, Williemae Perkins, Mary Clancy, and Jewel LaShore; uncles, Craig Young Sr. , Craig Swift, James Coleman, Dave Brown, Melvin Palmore, Nathaniel Perkins, Dan Clancy, and Fred LaShore; two brothers-in-law, James Thomas, and Robert Hopkins.
The family expresses special thanks to those who offered condolences and other expressions of sympathy during our bereavement.
