James Smothers, Jr. was born July 7, 1957 in Hollandale, Mississippi, the son of James C. Sr. and Ruth Mae Smothers. He completed his earthly journey on Friday, January 8, 2021 at the age of 63 years.
James, known as “JC”, was a graduate of Saginaw High School. After graduation, he worked for Crown Plaza Hotel and General Motors Corporation. He was a member of Good Shepard Church and was faithful in attendance. JC liked to shoot pool and he loved to get dressed. Any time you saw him, he was sure to have a big smile.
James was preceded in death by one son, De’leon Brown; parents, James Sr. and Ruth Smothers; brothers, Jerry and Robert Smothers; aunts, Bessie Holt, Leretha Marshall; uncles, Robert Hamilton, R.P. Webster; nephews, Daniel Smothers, James Smothers, Dekota Jenkins and James Jenkins.
He leaves precious memories with his loving companion of 36 years, Cherie Eli; son, Jason Boatman; stepchildren, Emily Draine, Shane Eli; sisters, Debry Davis Smothers, Sarah C. Jenkins, Sarah K. Jenkins, Devonda Smothers, Sandra Primm, Clotes Smothers; brothers, Melvin, Tommy and David Smothers; aunts, Betty and Shirley Hamilton; uncle, Jim Hamilton; sisters-in-law, Tanja Smothers, Sartasha Brown; many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends, including special friends Ralph Eli, James Scarbrough and Oscar Darby.
