James Sr. Banks

February 9, 1927 — August 1, 2015

On Saturday, August 1, 2015 Mr. James E. Banks Big Daddy peacefully made his transition to eternal life at the age of 88 years. He was born February 9, 1927 in Indianola, Mississippi to John and Kattie Banks.
James was employed with General Motors Corporation in Flint, Michigan and was a member of UAW Local 569. He retired after 30 years of faithful service. James was one of the founding fathers of the Soul Survivors Motorcycle Club. He was also a member of the Old Car Club. James enjoyed riding motorcycles, working on old cars, playing poker and cooking. At 88 years old, he enjoyed life to the fullest. His famous quote to everyone he knew was, dont give up. His presence will be truly missed.
He leaves to cherish his memory twelve daughters, Doris Quinn and Sherry (Alfredrick) Houston both of Elkhart, Indiana, Patricia (Eddie) Knight of Omaha, Nebraska, Overzenia Laster, Gloria Banks, Barbara Watkins, Kimberly K. Hardy, Linda J. Nunn and Shirley McClung all of Saginaw, Michigan, Pearline Surles of Battle Creek, Michigan, Jamaya Weems and Aqueelah Hasan both of Flint, Michigan; sons, Stanley D. Banks of Saginaw, Michigan, Sylvester (Teresa) Banks and Jody Nunn (Leslie Brown) both of Grand Rapids, Michigan and Sanetrick Nunn of Texas; one stepchild, Tamiya Ellis; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; one godson, Calvin White; one special godson-in-law, George Hardy; one sister, Earnestine Anderson; one brother-in-law, John Anderson; many other relatives and friends including his special friends James Harris, Alfred Nelson, the Soul Survivors Club members, Old Car Club Members and a very special friend, Latona Weems.
James was preceded in death by his parents, John and Kattie Banks, two wives, Lueberta Banks and Roberta Clair Banks, one son, James E. Banks Jr., three sisters and three brothers.
The family would like to express special thanks to the Soul Survivors Motorcycle Club, Mary Smothers, Mary Carpenter Jonita Reeves and Elmer Jean Pinnix.
