Janice Smith (Lansing)

Janice Smith departed this life on Thursday, December 5, 2019 in Lansing, Michigan. Age 60 years. She was born on May 5, 1959 in Chicago, Illinois to the late Mr. Robert L. Smith & Ms. Pauline Common.

Janice was a resident of Lansing, Michigan. Janice was a lifelong member of Jesus of Nazareth Church of God in Christ under the leadership of Bishop Aaron & First Lady Virgie Milton. She was known for cooking delicious meals for the church. Janice graduated from J.W Sexton High School in Lansing, Michigan. She was generally an outgoing person, who was the backbone of her family. She had a sense of humor and was known for her gentle smile and her love to help those in need. She had a tender heart and loved people unconditionally; especially her children and grandchildren. She loved to spend quality time with them. Janice was employed at Sparrow Hospital and the Lansing Center. She was a faithful volunteer at the Black Child & Family Institute. Janice enjoyed music and was known for her angelic voice and playing the tambourine. She loved the family reunions and always looked forward to spending time singing Karaoke and dancing.

She leaves to cherish her memories daughter, Angela Smith and two sons, Shuemon Smith and Erik McClinton; eight grandchildren, Shamyra Smith, Anthony Smith, Shamiya Smith, Shania Smith, Davion Smith, Shanyce Smith, Azalaia McClinton, and Shuemon Smith II; sister, Katrina Smith; two brothers, Barry Williams and Robert Watts; three aunts, Shirley Oliver, Dorothy Williams and Virginia Williams; three uncles, Ronald Common, Donald Ray Common, and Samuel Williams; four sister-in-laws, Kandie Williams, Treena Williams, Louise Williams and Bertha Williams; many nieces, nephews, cousins including special cousins, Nick and Kim Mackey; other relatives including adopted sons, Al Phillips and Ben Robinson, and friends including special friends, James AKA “Jimmy”, Tammy, Kendra, Faye, Diane, Cynthia, Tracy, and Valerie.

Preceded in death by her parents, Robert Smith and Pauline Common; grandparents, paternal, James Smith and Susie Prayor; maternal, Alma Morrison and John Williams; sister, Angela (Mooney) Smith; three brothers, Anthony Williams, Maurice Williams and Mark Williams and niece, Charita Williams.
