Janis Marie (Franklin) Cook age 61 years old, passed away on Friday, April 4, 2014 at Heartland Health Care Center in Saginaw, Michigan. She was born on December 24, 1952 in Hattiesburg, Mississippi daughter of Bruce King Walker II of Tulsa, Oklahoma and the late Dorothy Jean Buford.
Janis gave her life to God at an early age. She continued to praise and worship Him through the trials and tribulations in her life and illness. Janis grew up in New Orleans, Louisiana where she graduated from LB Landry High School in 1970. Janis moved to Saginaw, Michigan in 1974 with her mother. She attended Ross Medical Center where she received a Medical Assistant Certificate and began working for St. Mary?s Medical Center as a Medical Assistant. Janis married Willie Cook in 1992 in Saginaw, Michigan. They were together for 38 years until her passing. She was a member of New Morning Star Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Johnnie Goodman for over 20 years before joining Light House of Glory Baptist Church. She enjoyed cooking, bingo, playing cards and spending time with her family and friends. Janis lived her life to the fullest.
Janis leaves to cherish her memory her spouse, Willie Cook of Saginaw, Michigan; her children, Sylvlenthia Banks, Stanislaus Johnson and Syrina Johnson, all of Saginaw, Michigan; her brothers, Bruce (Bertha) Walker III, Dwayne Walker, Brian Franklin, all of Saginaw, Michigan, Derrick (Melissa) Madison of Gulfport, Mississippi, Ivory (Bertha) Walker of Fletcher, South Carolina; her sisters, Anita (Theodore) Johnson, Cynthia (Robert) Bell, Tammy West, all of Saginaw, Michigan and Tia (Michael) Jackson of Gulfport, Mississippi, Dr. Sandra K (Garnet) Walker of Pearl, Mississippi; her grandchildren, Shaniqua Brooks, D?Quavion Wallace, Diamonque Johnson, Raven Harvey, Dontarius Johnson, Darius Trice, NyKisha Banks, Pele Peterson Jr., Stanzhe Johnson; mother-in-law, Rosie Washington; brother-in-law, David Thompson; four sister-in-laws, Mary Ann (T.L.) Thomas of Saginaw, Michigan, Bertha Rodgers, Barbara Washington and Sharon Eason all of Nashville, Tennessee; one niece, Tinisha West; seven nephews, Theodore Jr. and Terrance Johnson, Robert and Shaun (Yvette) Bell, Courtney and Dwayne Bishop, Tyrone (Andria) West; special cousin, Elverta Harper; special aunt, Ethel James; many other relatives and friends including her special friends, Charlene Osteen and Daniell Slade.
Janis was preceded in death by her mother, Dorothy Buford; her son, Steven Johnson; grandsons, Isaiah Harper, Javion & Jovion Peterson; her aunt, Delores (Curtis) Leggett and her nephew, Troy West.
