Jennie G. Hopkins

January 15, 1942 — May 13, 2018

Ms. Jennie G. Hopkins, our beloved Mother, Grandmother, Sister, and Aunt, passed away with peace and grace on Sunday, May 13, 2018 at her residence. Age 76 years. She was born January 15, 1942 in Sunflower, Mississippi to Samuel Lee and Georgia Bell Hopkins.

Jennie was a resident of Saginaw, Michigan and a past student at Delta College. She attended several churches throughout her time in Saginaw, including Coleman Temple, Good Samaritan, and Peace of Grace Ministries. Jennie was an entrepreneur at heart, which led to her starting her own childcare service. She loved spending time with her family, watching sports, Steve Harvey and Jerry Springer. Some of her favorite hobbies were cooking, reading, listening to music, crossword puzzles and cracking jokes with her grandchildren. Family has always been most important to her, and while she lived, she assured them of her love. No matter if you lived near or far, Jennie made sure you felt her love.

Ms. Hopkins leaves to cherish her memory, one son, Bernard (Vivian) Hopkins, Memphis, Tennessee; three daughters, Minister Sherri Blacksher, Sharon Hopkins, both of Saginaw, Michigan, Tonja Hopkins, Grand Rapids, Michigan; two sisters, Diane Logan, Anita Pegues, both of Memphis, Tennessee; two brothers, Aaron (Dorothy) Hopkins, Jacksonville, Florida, Kenny Pegues, Memphis, Tennessee; fourteen grandchildren, Kandice, Kuddles, Jene’ke, Sylander, DeQuarrius, Gabrielle, Shannen, Aspen, Arnae, Teiah, Isaiah, Ashanti, Laquinn, Antonio; sixteen great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, including best friends Gwen Blacksher, John and Vanessa Smith, all of Saginaw, Michigan.

Ms. Hopkins was preceded in death by her parents, Samuel and Georgia Hopkins; stepfather, Howard Pegues, Sr.; sister, Sandra Falls; brothers, Raymond, Redell, Cardell Hopkins; grandparents, Houston and Golda Williamson, Will and Loula Hopkins; son-in-law, Arthur Blacksher; and her best friend of 66 years, Dorothy Perkins, Memphis, Tennessee.

The family would like to express special thanks to Dr. Ernie and Leean Balcueva of Saginaw, Michigan, Dr. Mark Kuligowski for over twenty years of service, and the Pulmonary Oncology Team at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, Michigan. And a most heartfelt thanks to daughter, Sharon Hopkins, for the countless hours of love, compassion and care you showed.
