Mr. Jermaine LaTroy Jenkins passed away peacefully at his Florida home on Saturday, October 6, 2012. Age 26 years. Jermaine was born February 10, 1986 in Saginaw, Michigan to Asa and Patricia Burns.
Jermaine attended Saginaw Public Schools and was an exceptional football player. Jermaine was a 2005 graduate of Saginaw High School. During his Junior and Senior years at Saginaw High School, Jermaine was a starting quarterback that led the Saginaw Valley League in passing and earned all-conference honors both seasons.
Upon his graduation from Saginaw High School, Jermaine earned a five year football scholarship to Eastern Michigan University. At Eastern Michigan Jermaine was an outside linebacker who earned four letters. Jermaine received several awards while at Eastern Michigan University. He was named the recipient of the Silent Warrior Special Teams and was an honorable mention All-Mid-American Conference pick in Phil Steeles 2009 College Football Preview Magazine.
Jermaine received a Bachelors of Science Degree in Electronic Media and Film Studies from Eastern Michigan University in 2010. Jermaine was enrolled at Palm Beach State College where he was pursuing a certificate in post-production technology.
Once Jermaine graduated college he continued to pursue his passion for football. Jermaine spent 2011 and some of 2012 playing semiprofessional football with Valerenga Trolls (Norway top division) and Swedens Uppsala 86ers (Swedish top division).
As of July 2012 Jermaine took his love for football to another level as he accepted a position in Boca Raton, FL as St Andrews High school assistant football coach. Jermaine was the offensive coordinator. Jermaine was a great leader with a kind heart. Jermaine served as a mentor for youth and peers on and off the football field.
Jermaine leaves to cherish his memory his mother, Patricia Jenkins-Burns; two sisters, Passion (Mario) Grady, Terricena Burns, Saginaw, Michigan; three brothers, Anthony Jenkins, Marquell Batts, Saginaw, Michigan, Asa (Lakeisha) Jenkins Ypsilanti, Michigan; one niece, Jordyn, Amiah; one nephew, Mario, Isaiah; grandparents, Floyd and B. Etta Jenkins, Saginaw, Michigan; six aunts, Dorann Jenkins, Mary (Willie) Trammell, Gloria Jenkins, Emma (Larry) Taylor, Lorraine Jenkins, Saginaw, Michigan, Melissa (Jeffery) Harris, Danville, Illinois; six uncles, Floyd Jenkins, Saginaw, Michigan, John Jenkins, Dennis Jenkins, Earnest (Debbie) Jenkins, Danville, Illinois, Phillip Anderson, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Charles Burns, Nashville, Tennesee; many other relatives and friends including Shevin Hovak.
Jermaine was preceded in death by his father, Asa Burns; grandfather, Howard Burns; grandmother, Carmalia Lee-Kimble; two aunts, Denise P. McCall, Patricia (Dutch) Underwood.
