Jerry Abernathy

Jerry Louis Abernathy was born September 9, 1950 in Saginaw, Michigan to Robert H. Abernathy Sr. and Jessie Cross. The Lord called him home to rest on Sunday, December 27, 2020 at the age of 70 years.

Jerry was well-known in Saginaw from his history of walking the streets and living downtown at The Bancroft. He loved to dance and was known for saying “I love you man, you my only friend” and “Hey, hey hey!”

A fierce protector of his children, he always said he would kill about his kids. He fell in love with his soulmate, Barbara Crudup, in high school and would kill for her also. His sense of humor, fun personality and overall presence will truly be missed.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Robert H. Abernathy Sr. and Jessie Cross Sears; stepfather, Watson Sears “Chuck”; brothers, Larry, Robert H. Jr and Willie Abernathy; sister, Jackie Abernathy Watkins; stepsister, Earline Joseph; nephew, Robert Howard Watkins.

He leaves precious memories with two children, Marquita Woods “Boogie”, Jerry Crudup “Jay”; grandchildren, Journei Harris, Ariana Crudup, Delwyn Woods, Jr. and Maekayla Woods; sister, Hazel Cook; stepbrother, David Gray; nieces, Natalie Abernathy, Faye Abernathy, Angella Sears, Jaquiese Gray “Sweetie Pie”, Twayla Abernathy, Jessica Slavick; nephews, Greg Abernathy, Freddie Watkins, Duane Abernathy, Shannon Cook, Donnie Cook and Derrick Cook; sister-in-law, Betty Abernathy; brother-in-law, Freddie Watkins; many other dear loved ones and friends.
