Jerry Worthy was born February 8, 1946 to Elder and Elizabeth Worthy in Louisville, Mississippi. To his CB friends his nickname was “Rusty Nail”. To his motorcycle friends his nickname was “Hairy”.
Jerry was a veteran of the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He earned a medal as an expert rifleman and was a kitchen supervisor; he also received the National Defense Service Medal.
After returning to the states, Jerry was employed by General Motors as a millwright. He retired after 25 years of service. During his employment with GM, Jerry acquired his contractor’s license and started his company, TrustWorthy Builders.
Jerry loved motorcycles, music, and building computers. He was a caring and dedicated father and husband. He met his wife Wanda in 1984; they married and to this union they had three children: one son, Cedric and twin daughters Candice and Camille.
Jerry was called home March 2, 2021 at Covenant Medical Center. For almost half his life, Jerry battled with diabetes. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elder and Elizabeth Worthy; two sisters, Effie Eiland, Ida Worthy-Freeman; five brothers, Booker T., Saul, JD, Lincoln, and James Worthy; aunt, Nellie Worthy.
To cherish his memory, Jerry leaves his loving wife Wanda; children, Cedric, Candice and Camille; sisters-in-law, Pearl, Allie B., Hazel and Deccie; he also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, and many other loving relatives.
The family would like to thank everyone who reached out during this difficult time, your love has been felt. We would like to give special thanks to nephews Purvis Carter Jr., Gerald Eiland, Darryl Eiland; great-niece, Alesia Eiland; nieces, Lesia Eiland, Kathy Worthy, Carol Lynn Worthy, Clara Worthy, Tracie Conic and cousin Edna Worthy, whose communications brightened his day. The family would also like to thank Rosie and Donald Graves, Linda and Jessie Smith, Thomas and Vicky Overton, Frank Conic Sr., who helped the family with things Jerry could no longer do.
