Our Beloved mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt and friend, Jettye Marie Young passed away Sunday, October 10, 2010 at her residence. Age 71 years. She was born November 6, 1938 in Taylorsville, Mississippi to Ruby Mae Burnell and Gifford Booth.
Jettye retired from the United States Postal Service January 1, 2000 after 30 years of service, where her leadership abilities were clearly demonstrated as she successfully held many supervisory and Post Master positions. Jettye was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Saginaw, MI.
Jettye had unconditional love for her children, grandchildren, and her church. Jettye loved all of her family very much and enjoyed visiting and assisting her mother daily. She enjoyed cooking, baking, reading, and volunteering her time with the church doing various activities. She also enjoyed trips to the casino and traveling.
Jettye was greatly loved by all who knew and associated with her. She lived by faith and believed in keeping a smile on everyones face as well as always having one on hers. She collected angels, and elephants and proudly displayed them, and gave many as gifts.
Jettye was involved in many organizations; President of St. Joseph Isadoras Club; Captain of the Eucheristic Ministers; Lay Minister for the Dioceses; Ladies of Peter Claver; Member of the St. Joseph Womens Club; Member of the Liturgical Commission; Member of the Black Catholic Advisory Committee with the Dioceses; Member of the League of Catholic Women; Chairperson of the Black History Parish Celebration Committee; and Member of the Parish Funeral Luncheon Committee.
Jettye leaves to cherish her memory her loving children, Sharon Lynn, Traci Denise, George Anthony, and Michael Adam; grandchildren, Brittany Denise, George Michael, Jettylin Marie, and Sarayah Kay; mother, Ruby Mae Burnell; sisters, Mary (Clyde) White, Shirley Drain, Barbara (Pastor Ron) Turner; brothers, Ray (Ethel) Young, Herschel Burnell, Donald (Jackie) Burnell; a host of nieces, nephews, and friends including special friends, Estelle White, Lola Powe, Rosemary Breen, and Cory Buchanan.
Jettye was preceded in death by her loving husband George Adam Young; father, Gifford Booth; sisters, Irene Mannie and Mattie Long; brother, Clifton Cooper.
