Our beloved mother, grandmother, sister and aunt, Jewel Blackmon went on to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 6, 2013 at Magnumcare of Saginaw. Age 88 years. She was born May 14, 1925 in Sunflower, Mississippi to Sylvester and Florence McKinley.
Jewel accepted Christ at an early age. After relocating to Saginaw, Michigan, she united with New Jerusalem Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor John L. Williams where she served faithfully until illness. Jewel enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She enjoyed cooking. She was known for making some of the best tea cakes, cold slaw and macaroni salad in town. Her presence will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
She leaves to cherish her memory her children, J.C. Blackmon, Palm Desert, California, Isaac McKinley, California, James Henry (Debra) McKinley, Hemet, California, Herman Blackmon, Grand Rapids, Michigan, Timothy (Christene) Cross, Saginaw, Michigan, Callie Tina (Otis) McGee, Roseville, California, Christine Blackmon, Pontiac, Michigan; two sisters, Leola Griffin and Florence Jones both of Saginaw, Michigan; her longtime friend, Johnnie Gilmore; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; many other relatives and friends.
Jewel was preceded in death by four sisters, Leona Daniels, Lela Blackmon, Leanna McGee and Martha Jean McGee; four brothers, Charlie B. Brown, Eddie McKinley, Sylvester McKinley and Charlie McKinley; five brothers-in-law, Sammy Daniels, Ennix Blackmon, Robert McGee, Zebedee Griffin and Jasper McGee; two daughters-in-law, Nellie Blackmon and Patricia McKinley.
The family would like to thank our many relatives, friends, church families, the staff and management of Magnumcare of Saginaw for your care, expressions of love and support shown to us during our time of bereavement.
