Mrs. Jewel Lay departed this earthly life for her place in the kingdom of Heaven on Monday, April 20, 2015. She was born October 16, 1927 in Kosciusko, Mississippi, the daughter of Dan and Estelle Mallett.
Mrs. Lay attended Mississippi schools earning her high school diploma. She was employed as a Nursing Assistant in various nursing homes and as a food service employee of the Buick Motor Corporation in Flint, Michigan. Mrs. Lay gave her life to the Lord and served Him throughout her life by sharing the gospel message to all she would encounter. She had so many interests and talents which include sewing, crocheting, singing in the choir and cooking. Oh the wonders she would create! She was known as a dedicated daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She will be greatly missed but her legacy will live on in the many lives she touched.
She leaves to cherish her memory two daughters, Mrs. Clydie Powell of Saginaw, Michigan and Mrs. G. Lynn Anderson of Flint, Michigan; four sons, Mr. James (Bertha) Lay and Mr. Grant Lay Jr both of Saginaw, Michigan, Mr. Larry (Inez) Lay of Flint, Michigan and Mr. Thomas Lay of Kankakee, Illinois; one sister, Mrs. Nora L. Turner of Saginaw, Michigan; two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Naomi Lay of Flint, Michigan and Mrs. Rosie Riley of Lambert, Mississippi; a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren; many other relatives and friends.
Mrs. Lay was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Grant J. Lay Sr., one daughter, Miss Shirley Lay, mother, Mrs. Estelle Collins, father, Mr. Dan Mallet, one brother, Mr. Sonny Riley.
The family would like to express special thanks to the staffs of Tendercare Nursing Home and Healthsource Saginaw, a special cousin, Mrs. Mary A. Hunter and Family, Ivan E. Phillips and the staff of Paradise Funeral Chapel, Pastor Willie Jr. and Lady J. Smith and the Garden of Eden Pentecostal Ministries church family, Dr. Robert Sr. and Dr. Donna Burrell, the Holy Ghost Church Ministries church family and numerous friends.
