Jim Simmons

On Saturday, December 12, 2015 the Lord called his precious follower, Mr. Jim Simmons home to be by his side. He was born January 12, 1930 in Greensboro, Alabama to Fred and Henrietta Simmons.
Jim relocated to Saginaw, Michigan and in 1953 he joined Janie Leonard in holy matrimony. She survives him. Jim was employed at General Motors Corporation and retired after 31 years of faithful service. Jim confessed hope in Christ at Tabernacle Baptist Church. He loved to fish, hunt and work in his garden. His favorite foods were greens, chitterlings, sweet potato pie and peas of any kind. Jim was a good provider for many, an advisor and a conserver of all. His wonderful presence will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He leaves to celebrate his legacy his devoted wife of 62 years, Janie B. Simmons; his children, Jeanette (Michael) Simmons Barnett of Saginaw, Michigan, Jim Simmons Jr. of Saginaw, Michigan, Larry Simmons of Montgomery, Alabama, Betty Jean (Andrew) Simmons McDonald of Shreveport, Louisiana, Michael Simmons of Saginaw, Michigan, Rowena (Jerry) Simmons Amerson of Shreveport, Louisiana, Robert Lee Simmons of Grand Rapids, Michigan, William (Florence) Nelson of Cincinnati, Ohio, Robert (Rosa Mae) Nelson of Chicago, Illinois, Juanita Williams of Detroit, Michigan, Kathy Davis of Huntsville, Alabama and Gladys (Edward) Cox of Charlotte, North Carolina; one loving brother, Robert Simmons of Saginaw, Michigan; one aunt, Lizzie Patterson of East Moline, Illinois; a special nephew, Pastor James Wilson; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Henrietta Simmons, brothers, Will Moore and Mose Simmons, and one sister, Mamie Wilson.
