Mr. Jimmie L. Godfrey passed away at home on Thursday, September 14, 2023. Age 72 years. He was born December 29, 1950, in Bosco, Louisiana to Dora Collins and James Crawford.
Jimmie was baptized at an early age. He was a graduate of Union Central School in Columbia, Louisiana. Jimmie was a Veteran of the United States Army, retiring in October of 2010. He also retired from General Motors (Saginaw Grey Iron Foundry) after 44 years of service. Jimmie was affiliated with UAW Local 668. He loved watching football, and cooking; the family called him the “Grill King.” He loved his Western movies. Jimmie will be greatly missed by family and friends.
He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 33 years, Priscilla Godfrey; son, Jimmie L. (Kimverly) Godfrey; daughter, Joyce Godfrey; five stepchildren, Tanika Beavers, Tyrone Vaughans, Jermaine (Keimia) Beavers of North Carolina, and Jason (Gloria) Tate of Nashville, Tennessee; one goddaughter, RayTisha Underwood; grandchildren, Jailyn Godfrey, Jewell Harper, Shantoria Brown, Derryl Martin, Dakayla Godfrey, Arieanah Beavers, Jataeya Williams, Tae'vion Sample, Aceion Ortiz, T’Yanna Vaughans, Jermaine Beavers, Jr., Jer’Kyren Beavers, Kortney (Corey) Hernandez; great-grandchild, Teriona Williams; two sisters, Anna Jean Kidd, and Sherry Hines; one brother, George Collins; nieces, Kissy Hines, Arleda Kidd, Jackie Kidd, and Shea Adams; special nieces, Alicia and Falicia Owens; nephews, Fred and Mark Hooper, Dee Wolfford, Tre Collins, and Tony Owens; one uncle, Robert Fields; one cousin, Marvell (Corinthian) Harvey; sisters-in-law, Eilean Beavers, Rose Beavers, Wanda Beavers, Jeanette Beavers, and Joyce “Dr. Joyce” Edwards; many other relatives and friends including special friends, Earl Morris, Bill Chaney, Jim Wagner, Robert (Freda) Creighton, and Charlotte.
Mr. Godfrey was preceded in death by his mother, Dora Collins; father, James Crawford; sister, Debra Godfrey; grandmother, Martha Godfrey; aunt Flora Fields; uncle, Robert Fields; mother and father-in-law, James (Emma) Beavers; brother-in-law, James G. Beavers.
