Joanna Thompson

Ms. Joanna Thompson was called home Tuesday, September 3, 2024, at Covenant Healthcare at the age of 69 years. She was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, to Tommie Lee Thompson and Johnnie Mae Essex.

Joanna accepted Christ at an early age. She attended Long Fellow Elementary School and Buena Vista High School. After completing high school, Joanna worked numerous jobs as a caretaker, bartender, and retail sales associate. 

Joanna was an amazing seamstress, and she enjoyed, cooking, and spending time with family and friends.

Joanna Thompson leaves to cherish her memory two children, daughter Patricia Thompson (William Crossin); son, LaDale Scott; two grandchildren, Warren McMillon and Torren McMillon; one great-grandchild, Kairo McMillon; mother, Johnnie Mae Essex; three brothers, Tommie (Brenda) Jackson, Tyrone (Annette) Bloodshaw, and Willie (Michele) Gray; three sisters, Janice Monroe, Linda King, and Victoria Jones; two uncles, Russel (Robin) Jackson, and Pastor Eddie Jackson; one aunt, Paulette Jackson; special friend, Clinton McMillon, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends. 

Joanna was preceded in death by her daughter Tammy McMillon, parents Tommie Lee Thompson, and Tommie Lee Essex, brother, Ronnie Essex, sisters, Diane Nellum and Barabra Brown, brother-in-law, Norris Nellum, Carl Brown, and William Monroe. Many other relatives were lost along the way.
