Joaquin Guerrero, Sr. "Jim"

August 16, 1938 — February 22, 2025

Hemlock, Michigan

Our beloved, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend went to be with the Lord on Saturday, February 22, 2025 at Covenant Healthcare-Cooper He was 86 years old. Joaquin was born on August 16, 1938 in Akron, Michigan to the late Ysa Guerrero and Petra Hernandez. He graduated from Unionville High School. Soon after graduation he enlisted in the Army in 1961 to serve his country. He married the love of his life Guadalupe Martinez. on September 4, 1965 at Sacred Heart Church in Saginaw, Michigan. Joaquin worked and retired from General Motors Central Foundry after many years of serves.

He was a tribal member of Lipan Apache Tribe of Texas, I.F.O.C. (International Fellowship of Chaplin’s), an Ordained Minister, Hospice Chaplin for Saginaw County, S.O.S. (Special Operation Support Unit for Saginaw County), and Precinct 131/Apache Acres K9 Training Facility

Joaquin’s greatest love was serving the Lord. He was a man of great Faith that touched many hearts. Joaquin had a gracious giving spirit and will be missed dearly by all. His earthly treasures were his sons and grandchildren. He loved sharing his hobbies of fishing, hunting, gardening, building models and beading work. He also enjoyed his time volunteering and helping his son with dog training session. Joaquin enjoyed and valued many friendships over the years. He always enjoyed chatting and taking the time to share a story with his family and friends.

Left to cherish his memory are his sons: Joaquin Guerrero Jr. of Hemlock and John Phillip (Amy) Guerrero of Allendale, MI, four grandchildren: Rylee Lynn (Jake) Boverhof of Hudsonville, MI, Jarrad Phillip Guerrero, Charley Nicole Guerrero and Jack John Guerrero, three sisters: Lois Ryan, Trinidad Guerrero and Camilla (Jerome) Enriquez, sister in laws Rebecca Guerrero, Angie (Ramiro) Torrez(Saginaw, MI), Dora Halter (Sioux Fall, SD) , Alicia Torrez (Grandville, MI) and his special companion Lillian Lumsden, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Joaquin was preceded in death by his wife, Guadalupe (Lupe) and his siblings John Lisama, Couie Soto, Peter L Guerrero, Isaac Guerrero, Robert Guerrero, three brother-in-law’s, Joe Soto, Harry Ryan and David Joseph Torrez and a sister-in-law Henrita Guerrero. A special thank you to Covenant Healthcare-Cooper. Arrangements have been entrusted to Behnke’s Funeral Service.

A celebration of life ceremony will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday May 14, 2025 at Hopevale Church, 4873 N. Center Rd. Pastor Jay Roussel will deliver words of hope to inspire us. Friends are invited to share memories and reflections starting at 10:00 a.m. prior to the service. A committal service with military honors on Thursday, May 15,2025 at 1:00 p.m. will take place at Great Lakes National Cemetery 4200 Belford Road, Holly, MI, where he and his late wife, Guadalupe Guerrero, will be laid to rest, leaving a lasting legacy.

In lieu of flower, expressions of sympathy may be in a form of memorials to the Guerrero Family, or Precinct131/Apache Acres canine training facility for the Project Guardian Angel Service Dog Program, serving as a meaningful tribute to their memory.
