Ms. Jodelle Peek passed away on Friday, May 14, 2021, at her residence in Lansing, Michigan. Age 83 years.
Jodelle Virginia Peek was known to many as, Jo, Sis, Momma Peek, Ms. Peek or just “Granny” was the eldest child of six born on January 15, 1938, in Pittsburgh, Pennyslvania, to Jesse Odell Peek Sr., and Ora Mayhoe Peek (McNutt).
She spent her early years living and growing up in Pittsburgh, with her four brothers and sister attending school, church, participating in the local activities of her time. She gave birth to her first daughter, Diane as a teenager, worked part-time to support her daughter while attending night classes so that she could complete high school. She went on to have three more daughters, Denise, Tommie, and Tammy and she raised them in Pittsburgh until she moved to Lansing, Michigan.
She lived and made a life for herself and her daughters in Lansing, Michigan, by attending Lansing Business College studying secretarial courses and upon completion, she found employment with the State of Michigan working in the Civil Service Commission and from there she went on to work in the Department of Licensing and Regulation Nursing Division. She remained at the Nursing Division while raising her three of her four daughters until she retired from the State of Michigan in 1997 after 25 years.
Jodelle’s life was simple and full of Love, Family, and Friends. She was a member of Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church for many years and served on the Usher Board, and then later as a part-time secretary. She loved spending her time with her friends playing cards and dancing on Saturday nights, and then enjoyed Sunday dinner with them after church. She also enjoyed going to garage sales, the casinos, and on one-day trips with her cousin Shirley Nolan (McNutt). She loved to travel with her sis, Ann McClure (Banks, Muse), which she called her second family the Muses to their family home in Virginia for annual vacations and family reunions. She also had the opportunity to travel to Germany to visit her granddaughter, Ereka while she was living there. She would travel as much as she could to Maryland and Pennsylvania to be with and visit family.
Jodelle is survived by her three brothers, Colton Shepherd Peek, Sr., David Charles Peek, and Douglas Brian Peek; three daughters, Denise Peek, Tommie Peek, and Tammy Peek; eight grandchildren, Pheobe & Emanni Wilson, Ebonie Boykins, Ereka Peek, Stephen Payne, Dameteris Day, Dany’ell & Cartese Briggs; nine great-grandchildren; Eric Jensen, Malik Lauderdale, Derrick Davenport, Elizah Peek-Jackson, Hadiyah Lorick, Bai’Ruce Morris Jr., E’keyra Mitchell, Kai’Juan Morris, and Eme’Ree Mitchell. She also leaves many cousins, nieces, nephews, great nieces & nephews, great-great nieces & nephews, and extended family. Special extended family, Malvin Williams, Yvette Kline, and the Muse Family.
Jodelle is preceded in death by her father, Jesse Odell Peek, Sr.; mother, Ora Mayhoe Peek (McNutt); brother, Jesse Odell Peek, Jr.; sister, Charlene Diane Peek (James, Jones); and daughter, Diane Marie Peek (Wilson).
